This is true, but it's very unfair. People say guys in small hockey markets don't get much exposure, but they can get away with so much. Shea Weber gets nothing for his constant cross checks because of where he plays.
A Leaf player cannot do what a Predator, Panther, or Coyotee player does.

We have faster skaters on our D now. Probably a good thing, as some of them are adept at making errors, and only their skating ability helps recover from them.
Gleason isn't super fast on his skates, but he's positionally very sound, and can't be moved off the puck easily. That's his best skating ability. He may not beat a speedy forward to the puck, but he won't have to, because he can read the play better and be making it difficult for said forward.

Just for conversation sake and because i've read the other boards(i know i know), but what do people think of a swap between Nazem Kadri and Adam Larsson?
Not to say im for it or against it, just wanted to know from some of you hockey junkies thoughts are on this type of swap?
Wasn't Larsson viewed as the second coming of Nik Lidstrom a few years back?

Really stupid trade suggestion for a number of reasons, but here's the biggest three:
1) Puck-moving defense is one of our team's biggest strengths. So much so that John-Michael Liles ended up banished to the Marlies. Offense down the middle is a weakness. So yeah, of course, let's trade from a position of weakness to add some redundant depth to one of our biggest areas of strength.
2) Kadri at worst has already shown he's a solid above-average offensive NHL player. He's also shown flashes of being an elite offensive talent at the NHL level, and nearly put up a PPG pace in last year's lockout-shortened season. Larsson, on the other hand, has not even proven he's an NHL-calibre player.
3) At present, Larsson would definitely not be able to unseat anybody in the top-5 in our defense. In all likelihood, he probably couldn't even crack our top-6.

Larsson should turn into a solid 2nd pair dman. He's got a very enticing package of size and skating that really catches scouts' eyes.
but he's in his 3rd year, hasn't shown any improvement, and not only is he not close to cracking the Devils' weak top-4 but he's having a hard time outplaying other unheralded kids like Gelinas and Merrill for bottom pair minutes.
He's a good skater, but his offensive upside is largely based on projection - he had one kinda good offensive year as a 17yr old in Sweden (around 0.33ppg - only impressive due to his age though), and was solid in his 1 half year in the AHL (about 0.55ppg), but there's nothing that indicates significant offensive upside beyond 2nd-pair stuff.
He's also not tough or gritty.
If he can figure out the NHL game a bit then he can turn into a Karl Alzner type, but hoping for much more beyond that is probably not the safe bet.
Not impossible for him to figure it out and suddenly click and become better than that.....but it's not a safe bet, IMO.

he put up good numbers (19 points in 33 games) playing big minutes in the ahl as a 19/20 year old.
he is nothing like schenn. he only turned 21 in november, and has plenty of time to mature.
with that said, would i do the trade? no. but that has more to do with the fact that the leafs have plenty of talented young defensemen, and a complete dearth of talented young centres.

I just keep pondering how Kadri may infact be on the move. An uneducated hunch you can call it.

Larsson produces at a 47 point pace in the AHL as a 19 year old.....he's clearly shown the potential for future offensive abilites as he ages. He's got all the physical tools and is only 21.
His star is obviously not as bright as it was as when he was drafted, but to write him off at this age would be absurd....
Trading Kadri for him would be ridiculous tho, given that (a) Kadri has been a better prospect thus far, and (b) we'd be trading from a position of weakness to acquire a player at a position of strength.

Very tempting, even more so if they only give up Franson and maybe a better prospect like Finn or Percy.

Stastny is having a great year. He's worth a 1st as a rental. A vet 60 point, top 6 center that wins draws.
Not sure the Leafs are in a position to make that kind of deal yet. Getting a center like him isn't easy though.

If it gives you a leg up in resigning him is it not worth it though?
Frankly either Stastny or O'Reilly would lead the leafs in icetime at the C ice spot.

If you can resign him it would be worth it. Leg up isn't enough. The Leafs aren't exactly competing for a cup this year.
