Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

If he can reign in the unnecessary pinching and play a more structured 2 way game he can be a good 4/5 dman at the right price that bring a physical presence. Frankly he is either being told to do it or is not being punished for doing it and either way that's on Keefe.

Ya trading McCabe does nothing for finding a legit longer term top pair guy. It has to be klingberg if they're gonna find someone mid-season.

He's not going to open up much money, but his continued crap play will fuck us in the end, so do we shed a guy who makes more and serves a purpose or punt the guy who makes less and is poop? If it's between the two of them, the choice is easy.

McCabe is fine and paid fine as a 3rd pairing guy

Rielly-Brodie
XXXXX-Lilly
McCabe-Gio

If you slot a guy who can handle the heavies into that spot with Lilly, that's a really good blueline 1-6.
Or, you could play the fuck out of the top 4, and shelter the shit out of the bottom pair, and not worry too much about Klingberg at 5v5.

Also, I'm not going into the playoffs with Gio as my #6. We're gonna need another guy there to bump him to #7.

Rielly-Brodie
XXXX-Lilly
XXXX-Klingberg
Gio

I'm horny for a Brodie-Weegar pairing I think. If that's the guy they get they'll have to shift Brodie to the left side which is fine.

I’m not married to McCabe. He can’t anchor the 2nd pair, but for his salary he can probably be a fine 5/6. Ideally your “tough” dmen don’t suck in front of the net though.

Tbh if they do actually get a Weegar type you can probably even trade mccabe if you really want to. Timmins then slides into the Klingberg role as a 3rd pair Rd with Gio.

Edit: fuck you Zeke

There's no likelihood that both Klingberg and McCabe get dealt.

And I doubt they trade Klingberg after Tre just signed him for 1 year. It's a bad look.

You guys will waste a lot of keystrokes planning his departure.

i mean "he got tired" is a logical narrative but i don't know if it explains him completely falling off a cliff all of a sudden like that.

Agree, it's more likely to be just Klingberg. Want a good established D? It has to be him that goes, sorry. He's an expiring contract, so fairly easily movable, and I can't imagine they didn't at least discuss the possibility of having to trade him if it doesn't work out like it hasn't for him in the past few years. Otherwise that would be negligent.

If you move out Klingberg, McCabe, Jarnkrok and replace them with Weegar, Timmins, and Robertson, we can have a full 20 man roster with over $1m in capspace to carry an extra player.
