It's not particularly close. Klingberg hasn't been an adequate NHL defender in like four seasons. McCabe has been quite good in most years.

don't be surprised if the deal is with the Flames. Tre and Conroy obviously know each other well and Calgary has the kind of dmen Tre wants.

We could've used a little less D, and a little more O, from the blueline against Florida.

I don't want six Klingbergs on the team. But I do think one may actually be kinda important to have.

We need at least another legit top-4 defenseman. We’ve been missing that since Muzzin went down. Dubas thought he was plugging that hole by acquiring McCabe, but that’s a pretty obvious failure at this point.

I wouldn't say at least. I'd say we need one, to replace McCabe.

I suppose they'll get one other dman too just to be safe, and if following last year's blueprint, three more after that for maximum comfort and security. The tampax of NHL D, which was, not coincidentally, a pussy strategy.

Weegar is probably the best right now and the cheapest to trade for.

Andersson i don't think they're trading.

Hanifin would cost too much, be a worse dman for us, not be as good a fit, and will get overpaid next year.

In fact i could see a scenario where Weegar is moved for cheap so they can overpay Hanifin.

And Weegar is signed until 36, not 37.

In four years he'll be as old as Tavares and Brodie are now.

I think given the Leafs window it makes sense. Normally probably not. But this team needs to win in the next 4 seasons.

I was sort of looking at McDonagh when checking in on the Preds and ROR the other day.

Still three years left, but looked like he was still moving pretty well.

McDonagh does seem better this year but he's 5 years older than Weegar and has a higher caphit. You'd be trading for his 34-36yr old seasons.

They key is to make sure we acquire enough shitty bottom-pairing and depth defenseman that we push the likes of Liljegren & Timmins right out of our playoff lineup.

I’m with LoF on McCabe. Maybe he’s just a bad fit here.
