I saw Cowan took a huge hit in the first too and then came back and scored 3.

52 goal/146 point pace in the regular season, followed by a 48 goal/157 point pace in the playoffs for Cowan.
So yeah, sending him back to junior next season would be nuts and a complete waste of time.
Cowan’s actually going to end up being a great test for Treliving & Berube. Do they do the smart thing & keep him on the NHL roster all year? And if they keep him on the roster, donthey actually give him a real opportunity and chance to develop? Or does he get the treatment Nick Robertson got from Sheldon?

They shouldn't be afraid to put him on the 4th line. And to ice a skill or kid 4th line. This "he has to be in the top six or they must demote him" mentality is archaic garbage. Giving him easy 4th line minutes in his first year of pro hockey game and first year playing a grueling 82 games is actually possibly the best way to develop a kid in many cases as long as he isn't on a line with Kampf and Reaves.
Of course there's a very real chance he earns more ice time than that but he should be penciled into the fourth line already. His play determines where he goes from there.

I’ve been adamant that both Cowan and Minten should be on the big club next season. Best place for them to be, and gives us two more cheap capable forwards to let us spend more on other guys.

I'm also pretty sure that Minten making the team last year was Tre. Keefe clearly never wanted him.

Steeves has some justification for being top-10 (not for me tho) but the abbruzzese love affair with prospect people has always been weird to me.
Leafs have a lot of other more interesting much young prospects like Villeneuve 21 Akhtyamov 22 Peksa 21 Kokkonen 22 Voit 20 Malinoski 19 Moldenhauer 19.
