Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

it's funny (I just thought it was mocking draftwit in general)

regardless, for every pick you can find numerous "steal" or "waste" commentary backed by a serious looking "analytics driven" number

nobody knows squat, especially this year

This year has definitely been a little weird... but I'd also say there were some years that we had shit drafts and we all knew pretty much immediately.

And using analytics to make picks is probably not wise to mock. I'd want my team to do that. Draft may be goofy in some ways but many guys played this season! Were they supposed to ignore the same analytics that they've used every other year with strong predictive value?

It's all about playing the odds. Many teams do that. Even more teams just draft for dick size and truculence. One of those things works more often than the other.

not mocking the proper use of analytics but any dude with a twitter account can cobble some numbers together to make a case

Oh of course. But we all know the teams with a data driven process and the teams with a truculence driven process. Pretty clear that teams like Carolina, Colorado, Tampa etc draft one type of player and the Ottawa's draft another type. Just because this is a weird draft the results are not gonna need hindsight in a few years. It's the same every draft.

I think Habs finally settled on a plan to draft skill and then overpay for size at the UFA table. Not perfect, but at least it improves their draft odds.

My only concern about their picks today is they traded the #126 pick to Tampa and let them draft a player that was way higher on many boards.

Nope.

Heck the best one I clearly pointed out was from a guy who loves ripping the leafs.

What does him “ripping the leafs” have to do with his draft rankings that were done before today....anyway, can’t wait for you to post his analysis for the Ty Voit pick
