At least his stupidity and contrarian-ness is somewhat consistent, since Verheoff was one of the three defensemen Pronman had ranked ahead of McKenna in his 2026 draft rankings (the other two being Reid & Smits).
If he had them ranked ahead of McKenna then, he kinda has to still have them ranked ahead of him now just a month and a half later.
But if at least 1-2 of those defensemen aren’t Hedman-esque studs, and if McKenna isn’t either a bust or at the very least a mediocre and extremely disappointing first overall pick, the Athletic should fire his ass. You shouldn’t be able to go this far out on a limb as a draft/prospects guy without there being fallout if conventional wisdom kicks your ass.

- 'splain to me how a 20 yr old Will Smith out produced a 20 yr old Demidov, but sits 2 tiers below him. Also, gtfo with a 19G 62P winger being a "bubble star". Just shut up.
- McKenna is going to make this list look even worse than it already is, fucking somehow, by February.
- I appreciate the Tinus Luc Koblar shout out...but Cowan at 128 when he's behind like 70 players who either haven't made the show yet, or have made the show and Cowan has been better than. Amazing. A 5'9 Russian 2nd round pick from the same draft class who has never played a game in the NHL is almost 100 spots higher. Fucking amazing

Good chance Slaf will be at least as good as Willy Nylander...but yeah he's not better than Lane Hutson. Lane and Demi will be the Habs best players for a while.
