Lehkonen traded to Avs

For sure, but luxury 3rd liners are not legion either. If those guys were so common, their value would be low as there would be large supply.

For all our focus about this organization inability to develop elite talent and first round picks, starting from the mid 70s, we used to be really good at developing those great two way players.

Sure...but supply/demand gets distorted at the trade deadline.

I still maintain that our problem is not developing premium talent which forces our players to play top 6 minutes when they wouldn't deserve that time on a better team. Lekkys goal scoring was paltry so he mostly stayed in his lane.

As Krusty said, we haven't been at developing any type of players for a while now. Elite talent has been an historical weakness but even traditional strengths in developing role players, defensemen and goalies are lacking now.

But yeah, premium talent is still a major issue.

He was also in his late 20’s at the time. No offense but you sound silly here. This is beneath you. Gorton is an accomplished hockey executive at this point. Doesn’t mean he’s perfect. No one is.
He was 39 when canned in 2007

We’re have not been good at developing players, period. Hopefully that will change with the new management team.
That’s right “hope”, Gorton’s history of “developing players” is eerily similar to Habs of last 40+ years, and lots of top-10 draft misses

Hard to imagine MSL not helping the development process @ NHL level however
