He definitely has a top pairing ceiling. Probably settles into a 2nd pairing guy though.
Legit 2nd pairing is an excellent return.

Nothing to do w Emilie, both Jacobs & Dolan dumped him at first opportunity without blinking.Total BS. You’re clearly still bitter that your gal Emile didn’t get the GM gig here, aren’t you?
And? Gorton is the guy who largely rebuilt Rags on the fly. His bona fides are solid. Doesn’t mean he’s perfect, far from it, but HuGo seems like our best upper management in 30 years maybe.Nothing to do w Emilie, both Jacobs & Dolan dumped him at first opportunity without blinking.
That’s not to say Gorton isn’t highly qualified…
Arturi Lehkonen is at best a 3rd line forward. At best.Legit 2nd pairing is an excellent return.
I like Lekky a lot but if your org cannot consistently develop these "coach's dream" types with 2nd round picks then your team is hopeless.
Barron types are usually gone in the 1st round....and we got a second rounder back as well.
No brainer.
Byron and Gally with PetryThis what should have happened with Byron when he had a year left at $1.2M.
We also need to up Armia's value and deal him next TDL, although I like Armia better than Lehk.
Because they weren't able to push him around. They wanted a puppet.Nothing to do w Emilie, both Jacobs & Dolan dumped him at first opportunity without blinking.
That’s not to say Gorton isn’t highly qualifid or most qualified for the Habs job
Bingo.Because they weren't able to push him around. They wanted a puppet.
If every team was developing them consistently, they wouldn’t be worth first round picks+ at the deadline.I like Lekky a lot but if your org cannot consistently develop these "coach's dream" types with 2nd round picks then your team is hopeless.

That’s not entirely correct, Avs like TBay, Leafs, Canes don’t get how to develop “coaches dream” type 3rd liners either which is why they consistently need to go outside the org to find them.Different time frames…
Avs need multiple better than average 3rd liners ASAP. Habs can wait a bit for their next Lekky.
Lekky is also worth less during the offseason when teams are confident they will be able to fill that role internally
Yet Gorton stayed in Boston and fetched coffee for Chia-pet until he was canned..Because they weren't able to push him around. They wanted a puppet.

TBay has been the only one of the bunch that’s developed one in Gourde over last 10-years. All the other potential answers have been from outside the org, starting w Callahan & Miller…
Its just reality, those teams mentioned are simply better at finding players “who get you to the playoffs” vs “get you through the playoffs”
He was also in his late 20’s at the time. No offense but you sound silly here. This is beneath you. Gorton is an accomplished hockey executive at this point. Doesn’t mean he’s perfect. No one is.Yet Gorton stayed in Boston and fetched coffee for Chia-pet until he was canned..
For sure, but luxury 3rd liners are not legion either. If those guys were so common, their value would be low as there would be large supply.Different time frames…

We’re have not been good at developing players, period. Hopefully that will change with the new management team. For sure, but luxury 3rd liners are not legion either. If those guys were so common, their value would be low as there would be large supply.
For all our focus about this organization inability to develop elite talent and first round picks, starting from the mid 70s, we used to be really good at developing those great two way players.
