I like it as a short term move. And as long as it doesn't change the recent philosophy of bringing young guys in patiently and signing cheap vets to 1 year deals to be flipped at the deadline.
Its a terrific move; brings a whole new level of respect for the Leafs. We just got one of the best GM's in the history of the sport....I just hope this doesn't mean we're going to start playing the trap.
Not super happy about this. Brilliant GM but his time has come and gone.
I would expect, or at least hope, that he is basically just a figurehead so the boy wonder and Hunter can do their thing in peace until Dubas is ready for the role. Adds some deep connections as well.
In the last year Shanahan has hired the best coach in the league, one of the best GM's ever, the best scout in hockey, a capologist that wrote the CBA, and one of the best future GMs and analytics guys.
He aimed as high as he could. Just an absolutely insane brain trust running this team now.
This is a man that signed Ryan Clowe to an almost Clarkson level bad contract.
Not to mention Volchenkov, Ryder, Tallinder.. He has been one of the worst GM's in sports over the past ten years. Cliff Fletcher all over again. Let's just hope he's GM in title only and doesn't actually make decisions. I doubt he would take a job like that though. His ego would not allow it. Plus, he's a stubborn old man stuck on his old ways.
Maybe Lamo's old and senile, but he'll have more support here in TO than he did the last few years in NJ. I don't believe will alter anything the Leafs have planned drastically if at all.
With the management team around him there's no way they hire him if he's not on-board with their long term strategy and use of analytics etc. They won't let him do stupid shit.
It's fine. We can cheat now. Do you think Bettman will say no to Lou? If we mess up we'll give up a late first or a second.
Since we are going to accumulate picks like crazy, our borderline treasonous activity can be glossed over.
Lou isn't a moron either. He'll be able to let Hunter and so on work. I just want to see him explode the media. Once.
