Lou Lamoriello named Leaf GM

By the way, to those who thought new Leafs management model run like a committee, Lamoriello is definitely not a committee man.

Like I said, Lou would not have taken this job if he didn't hold all of the power. This is a very very very scary day. I feel like all the progress that they made has been lost.

Headscratcher. The guy is old and out of touch. Same reason I want Bryan Murray to step down.

This is a young mans game.

Heh. Sorry you feel that way, but Lamoreillo wouldn't be here if he didn't buy into the Shanaplan. Simple as that. Literally the only criteria Shanahan repeatedly said they were looking for in a GM was someone that would fit in to what they are already doing. They aren't changing their plans for an 80 year old.

Can't say I feel the same concern. Shanny is still the guy in charge.

If this is just a move to bring respect, connections, and legitimacy to the front office while providing Lou with a sweet gig before retirement I'm all for it. If he is now the guy making the final call on how the team is built, it's very bad.

Ya I'm not buying that "he's not a committee man". That's been their fundamental basis of operation, it's not going to change.

Lams, Hunter and Babcock will do a great job putting development plans together for our young players.

Lams is also a fantastic mentor for Dubas.

Saw this reported on ProHockeyTalk, and I assumed it was a joke.

Shanahan, stated long ago that he is building a dynamic team in the front office, they all rely on each other. Just because Lou is Lou (who isn't an idiot even for an 80yearold), doesn't make him the sole person running the Leafs. Heck even Babcock will have his say on matters.

Lou adds his pedigree to the front office and lets other GM's know, they wont be pulling a fast on on the Leafs. Lous adds a lot to this organization, this isn't the Cliff Fletcher show of years ago and he'll help bring along Dubas whom is poised to become GM at some point.

I can't see this as a bad thing for the Leafs. I will say that on the surface I wouldn't like an "old boys club" hiring for a team looking to move into a new era of analytics. However, I have to assume that Lou is being brought in to groom Dubas. Can't think of anyone better to teach an aspiring GM how to take advantage of every loophole possible... and even create new ones.

I just can't get over how great of a hire Shanahan was. I'm not sure why it took Leafs management so long to realize they can flex their financial muscle like this, but finally someone who gets it. Buy the best of everything. Thats the one advantage the Leafs have. Way more money than everyone else. There is no reason why guys like Hunter, Dubas, Pridham, Babcock and Lou shouldn't be flocking here year after year. He's identified the best guys in hockey at every position and gone after them. While the media was speculating about names like Futa this guy has probably been chasing Lou and Holland.

My faith in Shanahan just keeps growing.

I agree with this:

Again Shanahan is basically the Leafs GM. Decisions go through him. Lamoriello one (more) voice among many he'll listen to.

Nobody in the hockey media saw this move coming, so I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that they don't understand the under currents in this move either. Shanahan didn't bring in someone who was going to go against the Shanaplan.

I hope you're all right. Lou has been one of the worst minds in hockey over the past ten years. Just completely and utterly out of touch. Cliff Fletcher level bad.

IMO they hired a voice and a rolodex....and someone to answer the media's stupid questions while others do work.

He will have A voice, just not THE voice.
