New Canadian Politics Thread

Semi auto assault weapons isn’t a legal category of firearms so that is the BS part of this. He keeps mentioning AR15’s. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t believe that’s ever been used in a multiple shooting in Canada. He is playing off the media and shootings in the USA to make it LOOK like he is doing something positive here, but in reality those who know the difference know that it doesn’t actually do anything to help the gun violence in the GTA.
There have been mass shootings at canadian schools and cop killers.

Why do people think an AR 15 is a war weapon or something? Is it the PR campaign waged? There are hand guns more powerful, especially if the AR is a .222.

Its the magazine, high capacity magazines allow for extra carnage.

There were two incidences that made me not care about that.

In a Acadian festival Trudeau went up to give a friendly hello to Scheer, and Scheer responded with how he needs to stop lying to Canadians. Listen, in the house, act how you act, be a dick, hold government to account, whatever. Outside the house, stop the games, act like a decent person.

In the English debate, Scheer ignored the first question and went right after Trudeau and called him a fraud and a phony. Listen, we get one English debate, once chance to hear your parties views. From the offset, Scheer made it a slugfest, and set the stage for leaders ignoring questions and getting involved in attacking and talking over each other.

Two big cases of Scheer acting like a fake tough guy that results in a personal animosity between the leaders, which results in Trudeau just not giving a **** and undercutting his speech. Total power move by the guy who actually wins power. It was petty, but Scheer deserved it.

Apparently Scheer was a dick to Trudeau when he phoned to concede as well, which may have prompted Trudeau to upstage him.

It's because AR stands for assault rifle, and assault rifles are bad, duh!

Which in canada high capacity mags are not allowed. And I do believe the liberals are trying to just piggy back off the US media and what not to toss out our versions of the AR.

But yeah AR certainly doesn’t stand for assault rifle lol.

Yeah, but I bet if you polled people, more than half would think that.

Mostly it's because people in cities hate guns. I've gone to gun ranges a couple times and it's fun, but there's absolutely 0 reason I would ever be comfortable having a gun in my home. So "ban all guns" is a really popular policy. Yes, it would hurt the Liberals in rural areas, but they basically don't have any support left there anyways. And it can help drive a wedge issue - the NDP especially is in a tough spot, since I think deep down they would believe in a gun ban, but they do get a decent support from places like Northern Ontario so they really can't ever campaign on guns.

EDMONTON – A Nova Scotia native and Alberta oilsands worker will lead a newly formed secession from Canada movement in the Western province.

36-year-old Gord McGovern of Antigonish will lead The Republic of Alberta Party, which will take up a large portion of the ten months of the year he spends in Fort McMurray.

“Albertans have a distinct identity of not being from here, and the Canadian government no longer represents who we are,” said the haul truck operator to a crowd of supporters. “From St. John’s to Saint John, we are the true Albertans.”

In his first stump speech, McGovern declared a referendum would be held after his 2023 provincial election victory, but not before he buys his second boat on his large Nova Scotian property.

McGovern took a jab at Ontario-born Premier Jason Kenney for being weak with the federal government, rising unemployment, and too few direct flights back to Nova Scotia.

“Like we say in Fort Mac, Kenney will fill his boots with promises, but buddy is going nowhere real fast,” said McGovern in his unique Albertan dialect.

.222 calibre will kill you just as easy.

and the standard magazine for these guns is like 30 rounds or so, which is plenty of carnage.

but this is just a semantics argument - you guys would find a way to defend fully automatic machine guns as well, on principle.

I honestly can't wait for this. Just make it happen already:

No thanks.

Even "blue states" in America are generally fucking nuts, and would swing us way over to the right.

And how hilarious is this shit from the Premier of Saskatchewan:

33.1% of the voting population voted for the Liberals, and a further 30.1% of the electorate voted for parties (Bloc, NDP, Greens) who don't even think the Liberal climate change plan goes far enough.

Yet this schmuck's demand #1 on the basis of the election results is to scrap the carbon tax.

Though you know what? The point about equalization isn't bad - Quebec gets far, far too much of that, due to decades of blackmail.
