New Canadian Politics Thread

Dougie is a one term Premier. If he's "smart" he'll throw his hat in the ring for the CPC leadership. They might just be stupid enough to support him. Ontario Conservative Premier who speaks in a way that the westerners would gravitate towards.
 
This strikes me as odd, since he was shaping up to be the front-runner of the Reform/Alliance faction:





Either the party big-wigs have decided internally they want a quick coronation of Peter MacKay...or maybe Harper's coming back?

Harper is always lurking in the shadows. I always had a feeling he was never just going to go away. He is young enough that he can take another run at the leadership. Lord help us.

Mackay is starting to look like the conservative version of Ignatief.
 
The Republicanization of the Canadian right wing has been underway for a little while now. It's softer and gentler on it's face, largely because certain political ideas just aren't as palatable or electable here, but yeah.
 
Love the conservatives on tv claiming that guy's anti-gay comments didn't represent their party.

Uh huh.
 
If conservatives didn't regularly turn out to be the least informed voters in our society in study after study, I'd maybe put more stock in their media conspiracies. I don't think the modern media does a great job of keeping us informed, and has obvious biases. Again though, somewhat ironically, right wing media again tends to show significantly worse for mistruths and bias when studied.
 
This could be internal CPC wrangling going on in advance of the leadership convention but there is apparently an audit going on looking at 900K worth of Scheer expenses right now and "party insiders" are expecting a mess.

Yeah. I'm wondering if he's worse than Dion or Ignatieff. Dion and Ignatieff were legit academics though with careers outside of politics before getting involved in party leadership. Fucking Trudeau has more real world experience than Scheers ffs.
