New Canadian Politics Thread

I read Alberta has the highest number of test per 100,000 population in Canada.

at one point they claimed it was one of the top in the world
not sure that is the case still

for about a week the testing was focused on health care workers so they did fewer tests but now they are testing anyone with symptoms so the number of tests and the number of confirmed cases will go way up

our peak is still a month away

A month? Bah.

I present the Federal Conservative party's shadow health minister. Here, she's wondering why Trudeau's talking about waiting for a vaccine, when we could just turn to Trump's apparently 100% successful miracle cure:

Never forget that this is the doctor that apparently cured near 1000 patients at a 100% success rate to start this whole hydroxychloroquine phenomenon:

"
With his newfound influence, Dr Zelenko is also encouraging Jews of every background to join together in a spiritual agenda against the virus. In a short video shared to Whatsapp groups, Zelenko says that aside from the human effort to find a viable cure for the virus, the Jewish people have the responsibility of making a “vessel” to contain Hashem’s granting of a cure in the physical realm.

The unity created by each Jew joining in the Miracle Sefer Torah, a grassroots project aimed at bringing the Jewish world together in one Sefer Torah, is an act that can serve as the receptacle and inspiration for Hashem’s granting of a complete cure for the insidious virus.

In today’s environment of severe isolation, come together to display the power of our unity to Hashem. Acquire a letter in history, and share with your fellow Jew."

I might prefer just ignoring trump on this one rather than giving him ammo for a tantrum directed against us.

Yup.

I totally agree with Dougie’s sentiment, and we absolutely need to remain firm behind closed doors against throwing open the gates to the absolute shit-show to the south of us.

But the best approach to the US right now is being as polite as we can in public, and giving the Trumpster as few reminders as possible that Canada exists.

does trumpdog still have the military at the border?

Like most of the initiatives he announces in the Trump pandemic variety show, I don’t think that ever ended up happening or ever ended getting seriously pursued.

It’s both a curse and a blessing that the man is allergic to hard work and has the attention span of a gnat.

So if I get the emergency benefit, how much should I put aside that I’ll have to pay in tax do you think? I’ve never collected except when I was on mat leave but it was considerably less.

Just adds to your yearly income so it will depend on your income tax bracket.

I think I read somewhere that if you collect the total $8k available it's low end $1200 and high end $2k. But like it was mentioned above, it's dependant on your tax bracket.

My wife is a fee-for-service doctor, Ontario government set up new codes for her to practice Telehealth medicine, of course none of them work so she hasn't been paid for two months. Yay! Not that anyone feel sorry for family doctors it seems, but this is been a really tough time for her and none of the relief money really applies to her situation.

I’m sorry. That’s awful. Times are hard for all, especially doctors. I’m sure she’s being inundated with a ton of work and trying to figure this out on the fly.

Yeah this telemedicine code thing has been a disaster. Apparently it takes a while to update these codes in OHIP's database. But yeah, fee for service docs are getting screwed right now.
