New Canadian Politics Thread

Newsweek.

14000 people were arrested during the George Floyd protests. Nevermind the tear gas and rubber bullets used by police.

Americans just think they are free, but their government is way more authoritarian than ours. I just read the other day that the CIA also has a mass surveillance program now.

My only question is how much of the cpc base is turned off by this. If this doesn't bleed cpc votes, its a bad sign regarding how easy to radicalize our right wing actually is.
For sure some of them love it. But the CPC needs more than their base to actually win an election, and the crazier wing of their base is vulnerable to the PPC.

Large number of police from around the province and country just arrived and are starting to move into the core area.
up until now the activity had been on the fringe area moving some of the trucks.

These also aren’t people peacefully assembling. They spend 3 weeks in residential areas blasting their Horns over night.

I find it convenient for fox et Al to ignore that context.

its the GOP approach bleeding into Canada, where they think if they repeat the same talking point over any over, ("peaceful protest") it somehow becomes true.

No idea how they allowed massive vehicles like that to camp out near Parliament for that long, seems like a huge huge security issue for some sort of potential attack.

Watching the Global News raw feed on YouTube. Things are getting spicy in front of the Rideau Centre at Wellington St. and Colonel By Dr. Some pushing and shoving.

its even subtler than that - they bleat "peaceful protest" over and over again as if that's the actual issue, when it's not.

it doesn't matter if the protest is peaceful or not. If you, say, peacefully chain yourself to trees to stop a logging operation, you will be arrested, peaceful or not.
