New Canadian Politics Thread

despite the opinions of some folks here, I too am pretty worried about that weasel.

My dad’s what I’d call a Red Tory, and I use him as kind of a bellwether for
right-leaning eastern/central Canadian voters.

And try as I might, I can’t convince him that Poilievre isn’t a perfectly good, serious moderate, mainstream candidate. Or that the convoy movement isn’t for the most part an honest Canadian grassroots campaign that’s mostly concerned with perfectly reasonable things like the well-being of truckers and farmers.

So yeah, I’m worried too.

Trudeau fatigue isn't going away, and a bunch of people will vote their team colors without knowing who's leading them. PP winning means Trudeau doesn't have to swing right to avoid losing the Paul Martin Liberals crowd, so that might be a way to avoid losing much ground. Still hard to know how the NDP vote will react - I'm sure some of them feel they sold their soul to the devil with the agreement and might stay home. But others might see that as a step and can vote NDP to send a message to the Libs knowing they might work together anyway.

ultimately, think it will come down to whether PP can get suburban second or third generation Canadians to vote for him.

I'm not sure how he may do this, but I won't underestimate him. these are the same folks who largely vote for Dougie, after all.

also, thank heavens Dougie is still in power in Ontario - this is the only thing he is likely to be good for, as a foil to PP cause Ontarians do not seem to like having the same colour represent them across governments...

Just talking shit. Idgaf who wins.

Would be nice if someone won and actually delivered. Our economy about to fall into the toilet. Mortgage rates rumored to go up again soon just might be the end of a lot of people.

Ontario perpetually being at cross-purposes when it comes to who they vote for provincially and federally is a fair point.

Having a second-term Ford government in power in Ontario definitely doesn’t help Poilievre.

Fast rising inflation and interest rates have me concerned. Equity Market and housing market kinda teetering right now. Might crater. Negative Nancy in me maybe.

I’m sure there are smarter people on here who will do more research than I care to.

So you're concerned by both prices rising and falling.

We’ve been in this situation before and survived the tough times. I’m sure we will again.

More than the usual to and fro with interest rates and housing prices I’m really interested to see what companies/government do to convince people to work for them.

I’m really worried about the level of doctors/nurses now. Not sure what it’s like in Ontario but if you don’t have a family doctor in BC you basically need to put your name on a list and wait and hope. Personally I know of someone who’s had to wait 2 years at this point.
