New Canadian Politics Thread

Oh same, same. Microwaved veggies were a big reason I thought I hated veggies most of my life.

Now I can pretty much find a way to prepare any of 'em so I can eat it.
Microwaved green giant cut greens beans were the best thing ever. Definitely on my last meal menu.

It’s a bad look for WestJet, for sure. Not necessarily for letting him talk, but approving that footage for use in a campaign ad…

They’re based in Alberta though so maybe it’s a decent strategy, I don’t know. At the very least I’m sure it will get them some favorable treatment if PP wins.

We're not immune

Hours after running down a Muslim family in a self-proclaimed “terrorist attack,” Nathaniel Veltman gave a rambling statement to police railing against the “far-left liberal agenda,” the “dishonest” media and referencing conspiracy theories, claiming his perceived lack of freedom of speech left him no choice but to commit violence.
Monologuing at length in a recorded interview with London police Det. Micah Bourdeau just after 1 a.m. on June 7, 2021 — five hours after the attack — Veltman said he wanted “the world to know why I did what I did, so I’m going to tell you.”

In the first interview, Veltman, crouched over in a chair and at times speaking at a rapid pace, detailed how he came to violence, citing white-nationalist ideas and conspiracy theories. In particular, he repeatedly made baseless references to a conspiracy theory involving “Muslim grooming gangs” and “minority on white” crime.

Veltman told Bourdeau he had become politically engaged around the age of 18, and had paid careful attention to coverage around the time of the 2016 election of former U.S. President Donald Trump, saying he found the media was “very dishonest” and realized they couldn’t be trusted.

He began doing his own research online

As he was approaching his victims, he noticed there were children among the group. He said he was aiming for the parents and considered the others “collateral damage.”
“I knew there were children. It had to be brutal. It had to be a very strong message,” he said.

Well, this is interesting. Trudeau is all but outright accusing Narendra Modi and his government in open Parliament of assassinating a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil:

the cynic in me says this is all politicking to make up for his perceived weakness on China.

in any event, I have little doubt that Modi is responsible though. dude has always been an ethnonationalist.

Everything is political. But Modi and his government have also been consistently histrionic in their demands that Canada brutally crack down on, arrest and/or deport to India any Canadian Sikhs advocating for a seperate Sikh state in India. What we consider “free speech”, Modi brands as terrorism.

Basically the same type of thing as Xi and the Meng Wanzhou affair, where an authoritarian ruler is demanding that Canada suspend the rule of law in this country at their behest.

Less than a week ago, the Cons were saying that Trudeau getting scolded by Modi was a sign of his weakness and how he was making Canada a laughingstock.

Now if only he'd get tough on the fascists here at home.

It’s a complicated issue and a lot stems from the Air India bombings in 1985 by Canadian based Sikh terrorist. To date I think only one person has been convicted but there were/are many more involved. India is still upset that. Are the the Sikh activist still active in Canada? Most likely but they are not representative of the majority of the Canadian Sikh population.

Less than a week ago few people had any idea why Trudeau was so testy. He didn’t announce the reason to parliament until his return.

if the state of India arranged to have a Canadian citizen killed in Canada, I don't think it is complicated at all. it is simple and a gross and disgusting violation of our sovereignty.

having said that, we've seen nothing in the way of evidence thus far.

who else besides India had a motive?
