New Canadian Politics Thread

From June:

Count me as a contrarian on this for now.

I think what we're going to see now is a bunch of people who don't understand what today's AI actually is (we're still not remotely close to AGI, what we have now are basically high powered sequence guessing machines that are slaves to it's scraped data set...this is why we can't build self driving cars that can make human like driving decisions but instead have chat bots that scrape the internet and become nazis unless specifically instructed not to be) and make a bunch of business decisions they don't understand because "AI is the future" and suffer horrendously for it until they're fired, the AI is unplugged and people go back to working for those businesses.

So yeah, the dam will burst and then it will stop bursting when companies realize how much of a clown fuck show they've created and billions in shareholder value is wiped out.

In the future we're all totally robot food, but I don't think we're months or years away from that. More like decades or more.

There’s also the fact that’s Air Canada, which is in a podium position with BCE and Loblaws for shittiest corporation in Canada.

the structure of our economy makes shitty oligopolies a guarantee. In the end none of the companies involved have any incentive to offer competitive pricing, good customer service, innovative products, etc.

We're almost always the last to get new technology among western nations, with lesser service, at higher prices.

YES. Please keep announcing policy ideas like this one Pierre, and we might be saved from you becoming PM after all:

so I actually understand where he is coming from thanks to a recent episode of Canadaland. but holy fuck does this just come off as creepy.

government's gonna monitor our porn consumption now? why does PP want to know what porn we watch? <-- these are the points I'd be hitting if I was the Libs...

Yeah, I don't think "won't someone think of the children" is a winning message in Canada. Push him on this. Conservatives can't be allowed to talk out of both sides of their mouth on parenting issues. You can't demand that parents basically own their teenagers regarding gender issues, education, access to healthcare, etc but then claim that it's up to daddy government to monitor their online activities.

I've been telling people who quote polls to me all the time. The election isn't happening today so there's plenty of time for Poilievre to step on many, many rakes between now and election day.
