yeah was gonna say. Telus consultant is concerned by declining profits of telcos, quelle surprise...

and are the profits even declining? or just increasing as quickly as the greedy fucks want...

Bell Canada, for example, is guiding to between 0-per-cent and 4-per-cent revenue growth in 2024, and between a 3-per-cent and 11-per-cent decline in cash flow. The market is concerned that the paltry 3-per-cent increase in BCE Inc.’s dividend for 2024 may be the last we see for the foreseeable future.

Let's be clear from the jump as well, BCE's net earnings for 2023 was just under 3 Billion on total rev of 18.3 Billion, which is pretty outstanding margins. Average american telecom (where at least fake competition exists) profit margin is 12%. BCE's is roughly 16.5%. They're incredibly profitable by industry standards. But even that's not good enough for our corporate masters:

Not surprisingly, Bell Canada has reacted by slashing 4,800 jobs, or 9 per cent of its work force, during a challenging economic backdrop; selling 45 radio stations; and cutting capital expenditures by more than $1-billion in 2024-25. According to the company, this is capital that would have been used to bring high-speed fibre internet to hundreds of thousands of additional homes and businesses in rural, suburban and urban communities.

Won't someone think of the fucking shareholders.

Precisely. Under the current oligarchic system, there simply is no excuse for any telcom company in this country not to be hugely profitable. The system is rigged so that telcoms can make obscene profits even if they're stupid (and they are) So this is not a case of companies "losing" money but merely companies making slightly less money than they had originally forecasted. But the forecasted amount is how you increase your stock price, which is all these fucking corporations have ever cared about. A slight lowering of the stock price doesn't affect consumers adversely, it only affects the ability of a company CEO to buy himself a new private jet this year.

Whenever you hear about a company posting "losses" just remember that it isn't an actual loss where they're going into the red. It's merely a smaller profit than they were expecting. But it's still a huge profit.

As far as I’ve seen the federal gov. hasn’t even consulted with the provinces or drug companies yet nor have they any real plan as to what will and won’t be covered. There was a reason they left it until this close to an election. If the Conservatives win it will likely be scrapped and if the Liberals win it will again be shoved to close to the end of their mandate before they pay much or any attention to it. I don’t think eithe the Liberals or Conservatives are super eager to bring it in.

I wish they would treat anti corporate protesters this way...or even better, fucking neither side of the aisle.

OTTAWA — An internal RCMP review of the force’s response to “Freedom Convoy” protests found that some officers at the scene of an Alberta blockade were unaware of threats to harm police until after the episode ended.

The review report also describes “chaotic” efforts in early 2022 to mobilize officers in Ottawa, a lack of proper equipment, inadequate training, poor intelligence co-ordination and exceptionally long days that prompted some Mounties to sleep in their offices.

The after-action report says the survey found that some personnel at Coutts “were not aware of the threats to police officers until after the blockade concluded. Others noted that they only learned about the threats through media reporting.”

“This raises a number of officer safety concerns for members who are deployed to the front line and as an organization this issue must be addressed,” the review report says. “It is imperative that all front-line members receive briefings prior to being deployed which includes information about possible threats to life.”

I wonder if Ottawa police would have been so fucking cavalier about sharing information with the fuck faces if they knew the clownvoy was making threats?

thin blue line and all that, right?

But it’s important to point out that while Pierre Poilievre’s party is surging, he himself, in terms of his own personal popularity, is hitting a bit of an upper ceiling. He is not getting the kind of swooning popularity numbers that Brian Mulroney had in ‘84, or indeed, Justin Trudeau had at the end of that campaign in 2015.”

Kurl said Poilievre continues to have a challenge with negative favourability ratings, especially with women. “So again, when it boils down to almost a single issue for swing voters, which is affordability (Poilievre wins). But if you solve that, it becomes a different election.”

TLDR: Conservatives are winning because the electorate is blaming the Trudeau liberals for the affordability crisis and the only solution at hand is PP, but he's not actually well liked and women find him to be shit. Which tracks, because he's a douche, a nerd, and a creepy twat all in one package.

The study found that Pierre Poilievre currently has 43% favourability among Canadians with a high school diploma, and 39% among college and trade school graduates. Just 31% of Canadians with university degrees have a positive impression of Pierre Poilievre

Men (49%) on average are far more likely to have a positive opinion of Pierre Poilievre than women (28%).

So yeah, men with low education are going to elect PP.

Enjoy.

Also the immigration issue.
