New Canadian Politics Thread

Other than the occasional shoppers trip I'm already only using local grocery stores. Better quality and equal or better prices.

Yeah, same. I have a local asian grocer that's awesome for most stuff, an italian place for some other stuff and Costco for random staples. Farmer stores in the summer and I'm well sorted.

Loblaws for me is mostly for frozen veggies and fruits I use in smoothies and meal prep. They also sell my favourite yogurt (Greek God 7% fat) for cheaper than anyone else.

Sweet. Between that and interest rates coming down, my property value is going to stay nice and high for long enough that I can sell and take my equity to Mexico.

Not sure what it does for the housing crisis, but I'll take it.

Good to know.

I’ve been using this service called comfort.to for my odd Costco moves. No delivery fees for over $100 and no sub required

It's probably better than instacart tbh. I know I'm paying a premium for not losing 2 hrs of my life on a costco run. Worth it, but still.

Recently leaked documents posted on Reddit have shed light on the pricing practices of Loblaw Companies’ (TSX: L) flagship grocery chain Loblaws, revealing exorbitant markups on everyday items such as butter, cheese, and spreads. The documents, purportedly an invoice from Loblaws to a No Frills store, highlight significant profit margins, raising questions about fairness and transparency in retail pricing.

At the center of the revelations is the Gross Profit Margin (GPM), a key metric in retail indicating the percentage of revenue that exceeds the cost of goods sold. In this case, the leaked documents reveal GPMs as high as 53.75% for President’s Choice Unsalted Butter Alternative, suggesting a considerable markup on a staple grocery item.
