Well this is probably not what the Liberals wanted going into the summer...

A CPC candidate winning a downtown Toronto riding, even with the Green Party & NDP vote collapsing somewhat…yeah, that’s pretty grim for the Libs.

A wiser man with less hubris who put the interests of the country first would step down in Trudeau’s position. But it appears he’s going to play this out to the end game: electoral annihilation & handing the keys to the country to Pierre Poilievre.

I've reached the acceptance stage. And I'm trying to convince myself PP is not all those horrible things I accused him of being months ago. Not having much success.

But, importantly, I think I've reached my breaking point with Justin.

Yeah, like I can overlook a lot, and I still hold out hope that rational thought will prevail and people will stop thinking JT is the most evil villain in the entire world.... but I don't know if I trust that anymore.

Pierre is all the horrible things we’ve accused him of. Just a complete shitstain of a human being.

My only hope at this point is that he’ll get limited to a unstable minority that he’ll prove utterly incapable of managing.

this seems overly optimistic. ugh.

was reading an article about his biography this morning and yeah... filled me with fucking fear.

Can someone give me a quick summary of JT's biggest issues?

Immigration being high is one of the key ones.
the biggest thing is it seems he's just completely out of touch with the population.

no empathy for the struggles of everyday folks.

lots of condescension from both him and his cabinet.

no willingness to accept any blame for... anything.

and he's impressively managed to antagonize both sides of the Israel/Hamas conflict by failing to take any real position and just launching platitudes into orbit every so often.

interestingly, none (or very little of) the malaise is policy related

PP?

I'd expect better, but not by a lot.
At least I'll get to have both! Yay!

Nenshi (former Calgary mayor) was just elected NDP leader here and it basically sounds like he wants to run as a liberal so fingers crossed he can do something about Smith (in 2027).

Nenshi will give it a good run in the next election. That could be interesting to watch.

I mean, some of the problems are always the "justinflation" and general economy that people are feeling. Justin has also always been running very much on the left, so a lot of the centrists have always been a little annoyed at him. Never mind this alliance with the NDP which definitely didn't help either (although if you are a lefty then you probably love that deal)

Also it's just a list of feelings. Trudeau has "no" empathy? for anyone, ever, for any reason? And compared to who, PP?

He's obviously done a terrible job dispelling these myths, because he did a pretty good job with covid, all things considered. But a lot of this hatred started with that, lockdowns, vaccinations, etc. And also the Freedumb Convoy didn't help, I think the impression here is that he waited a little too long to shut it down, but there's this widespread belief out there that he was wrong to shut it down at all. Or that it was a debacle because of him, not because of the bouncy castles and bridge blockages.

I don't think that's completely true.

People are pissed about the carbon tax.

People are pissed about the capital gains tax increase.

Generally though, yeah, I would agree the anti-JT crowd is very vibes-based.

jeez, 2027 is real far away

feelings determine how most people vote so maybe the Liberals should take them more seriously
