New Canadian Politics Thread

This is like Ontario writ large.

The Liberals and their increasingly unpopular leader manage to cling to power just long enough for everyone to happen to get sick of their shit at the exact moment when the worst fucking piece of human garbage happens to be in charge of the Conservatives and ready to scoop up the near-absolute power that comes with a majority.

I’m not convinced that we’re doomed unless we switch to a US-style two-party system.

Canadian progressives have shown time and again that they can and will vote strategically, to great effect. The main problem at the moment is that the Libs are run by an unpopular incumbent who’s desperately clung on way past his expiry date, and the NDP is led by a totally uninspiring dope.

If either party had a fresh, inspiring leader & platform, they’d clean up. And ranked balloting replacing FPTP also wouldn’t hurt. Fucking Justin.

Its a bit of a loophole in our criminal justice system. Its hard to do anything with a vehicle that's really taken seriously. Get drunk, get into a fight, punch someone and they hit their head and die? Manslaughter, probably serve 5-8 years. Get drunk, get in a car, run a red light and cause an accident killing one or more people...coin flip on whether you see the inside of a cell for longer than a few months.

for sure. if you wanna commit a crime, just get into your car first and you'll likely benefit from a milder punishment. it's a huge blind spot.
