New Canadian Politics Thread

I hate Poilievre as much as anyone, but imagining that there’s a way for the current government to make it illegal for him to serve as PM is some seriously desperate copium.

I could be missing something but Privy Council members have a top security clearance and Poilievre is a Privy Council member.

The point is that he shouldn't be permitted to run in the first place unless or until he passes a security check. If he can't pass it or refuses to take it he is disqualified, full stop.

And the minute he refuses to be vetted the vetting process should kick into action and if he's dirty then charges of treason and sedition should ensue.

There is no good reason for Pee-Pee to not already have his clearance and getting clearance should be the bare minimum prerequisite for even running for office, let alone serving as PM.

It's ridiculously simple. If you want to run this country as Prime Minister you need to be completely and fully vetted to make sure you aren't a Manchurian candidate. And getting vetted for this clearance shouldn't be voluntary. It should be a requirement that has to be satisfied before your name appears on a ballot.

Anyone who can't pass the vetting process or, in Pee-Pee's case, won't volunteer to be vetted, should be disqualified and assumed to be a criminal in need of being investigated.

Pee-Pee's too dumb to be another Hitler. He's merely a Trump wannabe. But like Trump, Pee-Pee himself isn't the real issue. The real issue is who actually runs these meat puppets. Poilievre, like Trump, may be a grasping, desperate numpty, but the people in the shadows who pull their strings are not. The people who fund them and own them are not. And it's those people who we need to find out about and the only way to do that is to investigate the meat puppet himself and find the compromising links to the foreign oligarchs and despots.

anyway you are forgetting such a law would not bind the King who appoints the PM based on the tradition of the leader of the largest party in the house. You can't tell a King you can't do X

What's next a law going to say, no man with a cut penis can run? no muslim can be PM unless he/she denounces islamic terror?

Just accept PP is going to be PM.
 
Apart from citizenhip and age, I can’t imagine there is any legal basis to block someone standing for election and bring sworn into cabinet?

Of course, once in office, there are definitely tight rules and codes of conduct.
