New Canadian Politics Thread

The EA was the best thing he ever did. It would have been even better if more Klownvoy chucklefucks had their heads caved in and been sent to prison and it had been done 2 weeks sooner.

Yeah, I could care less about any of the whining from Klownvoy supporters, MAGAts in the US or any of the hand-wringing or judgements after the fact from the courts or anyone else.

The bottom line is that it never should have even landed in Trudeau or the Federal government’s lap in the first place. He just stepped in once it became clear that the Ottawa police service, the city of Ottawa & Doug Ford and the province of Ontario had completely and utterly abdicated their responsibility.

I’m sure people like Count would be happier if Trudeau had meekly acceded to their insurrectionist demands and stepped aside to let a council of inbred anti-masker hicks form an unelected new government. But I’ll always be grateful that Trudeau stepped in and did what needed to be done.

The original meaning of “woke” among leftist activist types, as I understand it, meant that you are a person who is aware of and acknowledges structural inequalities in our society where minorities and women are concerned.

As for what “woke” means to all of the MAGA types and right-wing ragers that scream about it all the time—I don’t have any clear idea. Like I said, I’ve yet to find someone of that political stripe who can coherently articulate that to me.

As best as I understand it, they just use it as a generic, catch-all epithet for anything they personally don’t like, don’t understand or that makes them uncomfortable.

There's actually an additional historic layer to the term.

It was originally an African American term specific to their understanding of the structural inequalities facing black people in America. It was co opted by white progressives because as usual, their good ideas almost always come from other communities.

Carbon tax is useless if you give back as much as you take in.

Wha? The point isn't to be a source of funding for the government, but to shift more financial burden on to the users. Usage taxes are excellent mechanisms to generate outcomes that are good for society. See tobacco and alcohol taxation. What is done with the money out the back end is less important than using price to change behaviour on the front end.

For me, the line in the sand was the Emergency Act. I can't abide by what he did.

lol fuck off snowflake.

Seriously. Be ready to protest if any politician makes any noises about this other than "Get fucked buddy". The Kevin O'Leary's among us will happily use their influence among our politicians to sell us the fuck out for improved access to the trough if we don't make it deeply uncomfortable for our politicians to bend over for them.

We were not immune.

I posted the meme yesterday, and it's funny, but there's also a serious tone to it when you give it a thought. The only thing tying the CPC together right now (in it's ~45% poll result form) is "fuck Trudeau". They actually have to do some heavy lifting to keep the momentum going now.

Losing the F Trudeau will shift things. It's really hard to know though who will actually run for the Libs. Like, everyone is talking Carney or Freeland, but are they really going to want to jump in with things as they are now? Carney at least comes in as an outsider, but he's going to have heavy Ignatieff vibes going. Having probably 3 days officially in politics before starting a campaign is going to be really hard to manage.

And the rest? If those at the top bow out, then it's basically going to be Joly or Anand being put up to slaughter. I'll give respect to whoever runs for the job, but especially if it's someone who was in cabinet with JT runs, it's not like they'll be able to run away.

The only other name is Christy Clark, and ugh. I don't mind her running just to see her get soundly defeated. But I can't imagine she'd do anything to motivate the rank and file to get out.

Yeah, the Liberals are a mess right now, there's no way around that. The most important thing though is that it's not Trudeau anymore. There are a lot of people who don't really like PP, but were willing to vote against Trudeau.

I just don't want to get on a boat with O'Leary

I think that's true.

I was in Dieppe yesterday and couldn't find the street I was looking for so I pulled into a parking lot to ask someone where it was.

As I pulled into a spot a nicely dressed middle-aged woman was putting stuff in her car so I walked over to her and asked.

She said she didn't know but she said she had some good news for me. Puzzled, I asked what that might be?

She said "Trudeau just resigned so now we don't have to vote for Poilievre".

Christy Clark is no liberal. She was a BC Liberal, which is simply what the So-Creds rebranded themselves after they made their original brand toxic from all the graft and scandals they oversaw. She may be slightly more left leaning than Pee-Pee, but she's still a quasi-fascist beholden to property developers and corporations.

Too bad Charlie Angus isn't an option.
