New Canadian Politics Thread

Would this be the same US that lost and retreated back home with their tails between their legs every single time they tried to militarily occupy a country against their will in the 20th & 21st centuries?

I get that our tin-pot military has no hope against any kind of conventional American invasion. But any kind of moderately-sized and decently-motivated insurgency would eventually send them packing.

Especially considering they’ve never faced an insurgency made up of people who, on average, are indistinguishable from your average American in appearance. And who have only a very long, mostly unguarded land border separating them from being able to carry out attacks on the American homeland, instead of being separated by an ocean and thousands of KM’s.
Do we need to set fire to the Whitehouse again? :p

I mean, if there’s one thing Donnie’s known for, it’s loyally sticking by and taking care of his own friends and America’s friends!!

Then the Quislings should feel incredibly safe with their pending decision and flipping on us won't turn out bad for them in the end at all.

it's never just hot air. it's always negotiating. And yes, the US can bully every nation in the world if it wants to. Question is only whether that's actually in their own interests in anything other than the shortest term.

He wants to announce a “big win”. The way you could try to get him and the rest of these muppets to move on to the next shiny object is doing shit we should be doing anyway. See if big new spending for arctic defence (should do it anyway) and eliminating the dairy cartel (should do it anyway) plus some bullshit border spending gets it done.

If not, fuck it, trade war.

Donnie is beaking about the so called trade deficit.

Last that I remember, the person who negotiated the deal creating the trade deficit was,....checks notes....Donnie himself.

"trade deficit" isn't actually a thing. and it's definitely not a bad thing for the USA. it just means they're richer than us, which they want to be.

i don't know if he even knows this, but either way he doesn't care - all he wants to do is pressure canada into giving him cheaper stuff and paying more for his stuff. he'd rather not be bothered with trying to take over the country, he'd rather our government just sells itself out to him.

he doesn't even care about arctic defence (or nato defence) he just wants everyone to buy more US military products.

I’m not entirely sure Trump is all hot air re the Canada stuff tbh.

It's not all hot air, though I don't think we're in a place where a military intervention would happen. But if Trump can influence/cause some sort of an administrative coup that turns Canada officially or unofficially into an American vassal, he would 100% do it. To borrow from Tim Snyder: History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes.

I would look at the annexation of the sudetenland as an inspiration here. Pre war Germany used a proxy party in the region to promote for annexation, Germany claimed they were rightfully liberating the people of the sudetenland and basically dared the rest of Europe to stop them. Nobody stopped them.

What would happen if a similar regional political proxy (Alberta wildrose?) offered up their region for annexation in a private deal? What if Trump threatened economy crippling trade restrictions (tariffs in the 100's of percentage points, etc) if we didn't allow him to "liberate" alberta?

So yeah, I'm not too worried about tanks across the gordie, but our quislings selling us the fuck out? Its not a 0% chance, let's leave it at that.

Yeah, I mean all of this has been said out loud by Conservative media too since the convoy shit too - this idea we need to be liberated. So not really that outlandish.
