The great mystery of our time is why and how covid broke so many people's brains. What the fuck are you even talking about? Millions of people died of covid. Dozens of studies showed masks are effective in slowing the spread. The "virtue signalling" you should be crying about is an imbecile game show host making thousands of gullible people lose their lives by refusing to wear a mask because not wearing one made him look more "manly".

Ok councilor, you are in charge of the county when a pandemic breaks out without any vaccine. The only defense that you have is common sense.

Why wouldn't you recommend masks based upon the information available in February 2020? After all, surgeons need to wear them, for hours, while operating on vulnerable patients.

Based solely on the information available in February 2020, masks were the correct immediate procedure for the diagnosis.

Every time that you call the virus anything but Covid-19, you weaken your argument.

My counter to your argument is that, I too did not catch the virus. Yet, I wore masks, and took the vaccine because I am a caregiver for my 86 year old mother, It was my duty to protect her .

And I would do it again.

I know of people who are no longer here because of the virus, so, I am not wrong.

Fauci has talked about this multiple times.

(#1) There was some desire in the very beginning to not have a public run on masks, because they were desperately needed in hospitals and doctors offices.

However, the answer is mostly (#2) which is that in the beginning they weren't sure that covid was an airborne disease, and more importantly did not know many people were asymptomatic for days but still spreading the virus. They initially thought people would get sick and start sneezing and coughing, letting them know they were sick, and warning others to keep away from them. As soon as they realized it was airborne AND asymptomatic people were spreading it like crazy, masks became an absolute necessity.
