New Canadian Politics Thread

So the latest brainwave from Premier Quisling out in Alberta is that we should invite the Americans to establish a military base in Northern Canada.

That’d be quite a response to the country whose head of state is currently wiping his ass with the trade deal he signed with us, and is threatening a trade war and annexation. Roll over, show your belly and invite them right in.
Put it as far north as possible. Global warming will take care of the rest.

History shows us that those who roll over can never roll enough to not be expected to roll over on command in the future or face wrath and those who fight back are usually left alone because they're more effort to deal with than they're worth.

The hope is always that you roll easy and give up everything without putting up a fight

At least make them give us a horse

She needs to be firmly reminded that she is the premier of a province and to stfu about the military and external affairs, which are decidedly not provincial jurisdiction.

US had a naval base on the south east coast of NL from 41 to 94.

WW2 era base that got repurposed for the cold war, yeah. It wasn't there because we were incapable of protecting those maritime borders though, and an american arctic base would there specifically because of that. But probably more importantly is that the US has challenged our version of the maritime boundaries up there and disputes our claim that the north west passage is canadian internal waterway. Giving them a military base in a region they're already disputing some of our sovereignty over is probably a really bad idea.

I agree I wouldn't be giving them an inch of land with that circus in charge.

They are clearly looking for a presence in the Northeast though. Greenland, Arctic etc.

it wouldn't shock me to see them try and make a deal to occupy CFB Goose Bay again either.

The already have a military base in Greenland, and 5 in Alaska.

The only real competitor in the Arctic is Russia, and if you want to cut their nuts off, just open up the firehose of military aid to Ukraine.
