New Canadian Politics Thread

Conservative fightin words. Lol

Furthermore, she said the new Liberal leader would be running on "Trudeau’s record," and while Carney wasn’t a member of the prime minister’s government, he was appointed last September by the Liberal Party to chair a task force on economic growth for Trudeau.

"The next election will be about who is going to make life more affordable for Canadians," said Kurkimaki. "What’s going on in the U.S. impacts that, of course, and creates economic uncertainty in Canada."

What a lightweight

"He was printing money like a maniac"

Okay, I'm going to use M2 here as it's the broadest definition of money

Carney took the job July 1 of 2013 and left in March of 2020. You'll note that the "printing of money" from 2013 to 2016 was basically flat until Brexit when the UK ran into recession and yes, the printing press ran a little bit to keep the politicians from sinking the economy entirely. The steep increase after he left is mostly covid related, though the economy being shit due to brexit made that worse as well.

As for the video...okay, Liz Truss is maybe, maybe the most inept economic arsonist in the history of english speaking politics. I'm not going to bother watching it. She pushed through one of the most ridiculous giveaways to the wealthy in UK history and earned the Liz Truss vs lettuce meme (the lettuce won).

I did watch the first 15 seconds and she's on about quantitative easing....after her Tories dummied the economy. Just clownshow shit to try to pass off their historic economic policy failure on Carney.

Here's an article from the Beeb on the shitshow that was Liz Truss

Economic arsonist might be too kind a nameplate for Truss. The hardest pass of my life on giving a flying fuck what she thinks about anything.

Conservatives have not had leader worth voting for since Harper, such a dysfunctional organization

Harper wasn't worth voting for either tbh. He was just the first of these weirdo Canadian right wingers off of the Preston Manning assembly line of white guys in their early 20's taken in and groomed to be federal politicians.

Is there a better blueprint from what lies ahead for America if they upend the world trading order than brexit?

Okay but by "scrubbing" are you implying that Carney's people are trying to hide her because she's problematic in some way to his campaign?

If not, what is it about her that triggers Maple MAGA?

No, not really. Though I think that a relative Brexit (larger economy, larger downside) is the low end of the impacts for 2 main reasons. Composition and trust. Whatever damage the UK did to their relationship with Europe, there were no mass boycotts of british goods, etc. The Americans have absolutely torched their goodwill internationally and it's resulting in boycotts. Compositionally though, the US exports a lot of cultural product and service products that are just cooked long term. If you're a random mid sized corp anywhere in the world, you're not putting your data in American data systems, using their consultants, etc anymore the same way you weren't using Soviet anything if you were western aligned in the 50's-90's. They were a threat and couldn't be trusted to do business with.

I understand already, Carney is genius every one else is inept.

He wasn’t a genius at all. He was following orthodox economic policy, thankfully. But it was textbook stuff.

The ruling Conservatives? Yeah, spectacularly inept. We’re now witnessing the stupid shit in the US. Unfortunately I don’t think Jerome Powell/Fed will be allowed to right the ship.

Not everyone else, just the Tories and the rest of the brexiteers.

Carney is what he is, a very good neoliberal economist who prescribes steady handed economic medication out of the neoliberal playbook. Yeah, he prescribed QE when the effects of Brexit hit and every evaluation of their post brexit economy I've come across agrees with him. Tory politicians drove their economy into an iceberg, Carney injected a few hundred billion pounds so it didn't sink. It didn't sink.

Inflation was well managed:

She almost destroyed the pension system in the UK, the Bank of England has to step in on an emergency basis to save them.

Murderously incompetent and an ideological nutbag. Massive Dunning Kruger moment.
