New Canadian Politics Thread

Regulate the social media industry just like we regulate every other industry with a dangerous product. oh...zuck won't like it and will shutdown Facebook access in Canada? nothing of value would be lost.
I miss when Facebook was just for what happened at university parties

Didn't EU/UK smack his paddies a bit? Doesn't seem to have hurt things for folks over there.

Yes and they're threatening to do more.

These things print massive amounts of money, like any other industry they can be regulated and then be expected to develop internal mechanisms for compliance

I don't believe banning algoriths is the answer or makes any sense, because I know they can figure out how to make the algorithms work way better. And if they don't want to, they will need to be forced to do so with legislation.

Ultimately ... this is the way.

The algorithm is a social engineering tool too complicated for our ape brains mate.

I wonder if PP is just a really dislikeable little slimeball. It's certainly how he comes across, and it may not be an act, could be genuine. i.e. what I'm getting at is that no one actually likes Pierre for being Pierre.
The only friends he has are people he works with. I dont think he knows anyone outside of party politics and I doubt he has anything interesting to say about anything that isn't about him becoming PM.

He clearly rattled Trump. Now you take a step back to show how reasonable you are.

May or may not mean anything at all, but the goal here is to find a way to get Trump to back down on tariffs. Which I think ultimately he probably will, especially if the market keeps tanking.

As much as we'd love to just tell Trump to go fuck himself, it's better for Canada to reach a deal, especially if we don't give up much but convince Agent Orange that he "won". Art of the deal, baby.
This is the specific thing he talked about how important it was not to do that’s all. He said they wouldn’t budge on this until Trump lifted every tariff and compared budging to getting burnt by a stove and that he was far too smart to get burned again.

It's a fair point, but at the same time if the other side says we'll back down on some of our demands, and let's meet up for further negotiations next week, it's probably prudent to show you're willing to back down for now, especially since the goal is to come to an agreement.
