If you are going to drop opposing tariff threats, would be smart to get some sort of receipt from both sides saying that the matter is settled for a period of time - that is, it won't be an on again/ off again threat. Something like a trade agreement.

Ummm. Not sure if joking but there’s already a trade deal that was signed by Trump.

So, good luck thinking further receipts have value

My guess is that Carney isn't doing this to hurt the American dollar, he's doing it to fire a warning shot across the bow and let the US admin know that he knows where the bodies are buried and how to make this hurt if it gets stupid.
True, but Trump is an arsonist. He may actually be happy for this to happen - he can blame us and accelerate his annexation plans. Logic does not get thru to him

For the record, I have fingers crossed for your guy Carney. I don't get all up in y'all's political bidness too much, but still think it's important to at least  try to keep up a bit. Guy is lights out smarter than a bunch of folks, plus his banking (and other) acumen ain't nothing to sneer at. Capabilities seem pretty freaking awesome as well. Good luck, all.
Ie he is way too overqualified for our modern populist world 😞😞

Honestly don't think so, a collapse of the US dollar is the end of the US as an international hegemon. They simply won't be able to financially afford to project power internationally if that happens. Similar to how the Chinese doing a naval exercise off Eastern Australia is a flex for them. Blue water navies are fucking expensive and for them, sending a few ships 8000km to fire a few missiles into the air is a big deal but to the US navy, that's not even notable on a random Tuesday. There's levels to international power projection.
