New Canadian Politics Thread

The algorithm is a social engineering tool too complicated for our ape brains mate.
It really didn't start out that way - it was designed to maximize eyeballs and sell shitty adspace. But now it's basically weaponized to take even your smallest interest and turn it into your entire identity, while selling shitty adspace.

Banking (and a lot more) chops, much? 😁

I've made this argument before, but American power, whatever we think of their military ability, is a soft power house of cards based on the international acceptance of the US Dollar as the final arbiter in trade. We (by we, I mean every aligned and even semi aligned economy) allow the Americans do to things like show up in Iraq in 2004 with transport planes full of pallets with american paper on them and buy human support in country to aid in achieving their policy goals. Russia can't do that with paper rubles, the Japanese can't do that with paper Yen...fucking China can't do that with paper Yuan. It's not a matter of wealth, it's a matter of tacit acceptance of American power.

If you are looking for the lever capable of removing the most American power with the least amount of effort, it's attacking the USD through their debt.

The algo is the same, what changed is what we learned about ourselves. Rage was the best way to maximize eyeballs. A huge percentage of the population is ready to be angry at shit they don't understand, all the time.

For the record, I have fingers crossed for your guy Carney. I don't get all up in y'all's political bidness too much, but still think it's important to at least  try to keep up a bit. Guy is lights out smarter than a bunch of folks, plus his banking (and other) acumen ain't nothing to sneer at. Capabilities seem pretty freaking awesome as well. Good luck, all.
