Yeah, it would. And that’s actually what Trudeau did in his first election. Ran against a sitting Bloc MP and took away their seat.

Will be pretty nerve-wracking if he goes that route though. Would be kind of disastrous blow to his legitimacy if the Libs won but Carney failed to win a seat himself.

Yeah easier for a person with nothing really to lose (at the time) to run in a 'tougher' riding (though didn't Justin intend to run a sort of safe riding before Dion nixed that? Heh, ok I'll admit I got this from wiki as the 'source').

Yep, that is definitely a distinction. Trudeau was just running to become a regular first time back-bench MP and didn’t become Liberal leader until years later.

As to back room wrangling with Dion about where to run though, I’m not really aware of that one way or the other.
