New Canadian Politics Thread

the guy gets it

I'll tell you who should be nervous hearing this:

All of our "three monopolies in a trench coat" that make up so much of our economy. Trade barriers coming down means trade barriers coming down.

I can see us remaining protectionist in some areas that are politically important (looking at you, Quebec dairy) but CRTC regs about domestic ownership and shit like that, I could see Carney tearing those down.

so I agree this is true.

but there is also a lot of anger and hate about how things have gone the past few years. which is usually taken out on the incumbents. so I just don't know.
Carney isnt the incumbent. And his willingness to axe the tax on Day 1 of his administration makes him 180 degrees different from JT.

If all the Maple MAGA screamers were going to do in the event of a Liberal majority win is pack their shit and move to the states, I agree it wouldn’t be a concern.

My concern is that someone like Smith is going to try their level best to attack this country from the inside while Trump’s attacking it from the outside, and it is something I hope the Liberals are planning and preparing for.

A bunch of carney energy policies are going to end up being popular in alberta amd Smith's popularity is fine but hardly strong for someone from the natural ruling party. she doesn't have many levers to pull other than energy grievance.

As long as carney avoid export taxes on oil, i don't think there is a groundswell of anger for Smith to tap into. she looks super vulnerable in the next provincial election as well fwiw.

That's what treason and sedition laws exist to prevent. Throw her fat ass in a cell.

Another ugly bitch who needs to be in jail. After the criminal proceedings are done I'd like to see some Ottawa businesses which were adversely affected by the Klownvoy to sue her ass.

There's obviously a lot of idiocy on the right, combined with the over-the-top grievance and disinformation bullshit. But I do have some empathy here, imagine if you lived under a conservative government for 10 years (and leader you dislike) and just when you think your side will finally win and get back into power, the rug gets yanked out from under you.

I do think it would be smart for Carney to reach out and try to address some of their concerns. Where is makes sense, obviously. Axing the tax was a good first step. And everyone should be aligned to try and figure out the best and quickest way to adjust our economy on the fly.

If the shoe were on the other foot the cons would simply tell us all to "cry more" and "fuck your feelings, libtard". So I really don't give a god damn if these mouth-breathing inbreds are mad because their favorite fascist is about to be soundly rejected by a large majority of the population. If it's far right authoritarianism and Christian theocracy they want, they can pack up their shit, move south of the border and never come back. Otherwise they can shut the fuck up and do as their told by the Laurentian Elite.

We need to remember that these idiots don't have "concerns". They merely have petty grievances over the loss of their privilege and a crass, willful ignorance about how anything in this country actually works. They have been conditioned by the Cons to blame all of their problems in life on "woke libs in Central Canada". They need to be reminded that their value system, while validated by all the US television and far right social media they consume, does not actually represent the values of the vast majority of Canadians. Most of us aren't looking to bring back capital punishment, Christian god into the public schools, bans on abortion, or easier access to guns, even if a majority in Alberta and Saskatchewan support it.

These people don't need to be listened to; they need to be told to shut the fuck up and/or get the fuck out. Whatever patience I ever had for these dopes evaporated during the Klownvoy.

They've been screaming about a west to east pipeline for 20 years now that Carney is very likely to deliver to them. My guess is that Albertans will suffer from selective amnesia about that one too, just like Trudeau with TMX and they'll move on to their next grievance to blame the east for.
