New Canadian Politics Thread

You should read the comments on Nickel's Facebook page in the wake of his crushing defeat.

"It's rigged!"
"As soon as I saw the electronic voting machines I knew the fix was in."
"Alberta is conservative but a Liberal wins the election by 10K votes? Something fishy is going on."
"Trudeau bribery got his buddy elected."
"I'm moving. This city is fucked. Enjoy your tax hike."

And my personal favourite...

"We need to do a forensic audit to check for voter fraud."

Needless to say, Fox News is available here.
oh man - i should check out the tears

nickel is now 0 for 3 running for mayor - three strikes you are out....right?

I love that calorie engorged digital communications addicts and snowbirds who (previously) loitered around the Gulf of Mexico basin are “anti-science”.

I mean, there is an argument that people working min wage aren't going out to buy a Tesla. But yeah, it's the sort of thing where sometimes it doesn't hurt to give breaks to well off people to influence behavior. Like my aunt and uncle are fairly conservative, but they've bought electric in part because of those rebates.

The leader of a political party posted this...

This is in reference to Agenda 2030 which received a lot of flack as a result of an article that was linked to it from the World Economic Forum with one of the main points being, "You'll own nothing and you'll be happy for it." I saved a copy of the article on an old hard drive before I upgraded to a new computer (I'll have to see if I can find it), but I can no longer locate it on the internet. I do not believe the article was ever officially sanctioned by anyone (although, from memory, it was linked on either the UN or the WEF website), just a re-imagining of the future by the author, but it did raise some eyebrows.

Agenda 2030 is the source of the Great Reset/Build Back Better movement.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the hysteria around it and I'm aware that's what Bernier was referencing.

It's more insanity in a long line of ridiculous one world government conspiracies. All meant to seem just rational enough when viewed in the context of their times, but hilarious looking when viewed historically.

- In the 60's it was the profound revolution which claimed fluoride in the water was part of a communist plot to start WW3 so that a one world government could rise from the ashes. Also, "Rivers of Blood"!!! in the UK "We must be mad, literally mad, as a nation to be permitting the annual inflow of some 50,000 dependents, who are for the most part the material of the future growth of the immigrant descended population. It is like watching a nation busily engaged in heaping up its own funeral pyre. So insane are we that we actually permit unmarried persons to immigrate for the purpose of founding a family with spouses and fiancées whom they have never seen" Imagine that people still look back at this speech and don't see the height of dog whistly fear mongering bullshit, they see prophecy.

- In the 70's it was the Koch's old man and the rest of the John Birch society spouting how civil rights legislation was a communist trojan horse towards...you guessed it, one world government.

- in the 80's and 90's it was Nafta screeching. Remember to Amero? That currency that was definitely going to happen...how did that turn out?

- 2000's? Welcome to the Alex Jones era baby. Go back and watch some old Alex Jones if you want a laugh.

- Agenda 2030's original conspiracy theory was Agenda 21. This shit is just way easier to keep going when you're prone to forgetting anything that happened before last week or so.

Yet another dog whistle to Dougie’s base.

He can’t come right out and say “climate change is fake, and we should keep burning as much gas and oil as possible”.

So instead, he does petty shit like this.
he is a crafty little (large) bugger.

unfortunately he is generally smart enough to avoid saying the quiet bit out loud.

Liberal voters who have always screamed about strategic voting better be willing to live up to it next summer. Sure looks like the NDP is our best bet to punt this twat but 60% or more of voters splitting down the centre isn't going to get it done.

Problem is there's enough polls out there with the Libs in 2nd (https://338canada.com/ontario/) that they'll try to convince the NDP to flip rather than flip to the NDP.

the great irony seems to be that those who are screaming the loudest about our march to autocracy are actually the ones doing their darndest to ensure that takes place

So annoying that the Ontario NDP just keeps trotting out the extremely uninspiring Andrea Horwath, and the Ontario Liberals reached back into their unpopular recent past to select as their leader some anonymous, bland party insider fucker who was in McGuinty & Wynne’s cabinets .

I won’t be surprised at all if Dougie manages to win another term as Premier.
