Quebec high school students increasingly talking to each other in English?

The horror, the horror.

Maybe they can solve this critical problem by having language police stationed in every high school hallway, classroom and outside on school property.

And then any student heard talking English inside or outside of class gets dragged out to the courtyard and gets 25 strokes of the lash in front of the entire student body.

R.I.P.

Back in 1988 I worked as a media relations officer for the then G7 Economic Summit held in Toronto. I got to meet Mulroney, Mila, Joe Clark, and other pols. He would be a rare breed today: a likeable conservative who wasn't a nazi loving racist.

Mulroney was the last PROGRESSIVE Conservative PM, back when that party wasn't run by Reforn Party fascists. Reformers did to the PC's what MAGA has done to the GOP, destroyed it from within like a cancer.

If Mulroney were running for the CPC leadership today he'd fare about as well as Jean Charest and Patrick Brown did.

I’m too young to remember Mulroney as a sitting PM. But one thing that really stands out for me is that when the US elected Trump, Mulroney put himself at Trudeau’s disposal and did whatever he could to help our government through that period.

Definitely put country over party in a way that’s impossible to picture from anyone in the modern Conservative Party.

The first election in which I was eligible to vote was in 1984 when Mulroney won his huge majority. To this day he is the first and only Conservative PM since Sir John A. to won consecutive majorities. As a general rule for at least the last hundred years, Canadians have not liked or trusted any Conservative enough to give them 2 majority mandates. But they liked Mulroney enough (and distrusted John Turner enough) to do it. In all the elections in which I've voted the only time I voted for a Conservative by preference is Mulroney. Any other time I voted Conservative it was a protest against the Liberals running sock puppets like Stephane Dion or Michael Ignatieff and daring me not to vote for them.

I also voted once for the late Chuck Cadman because he was the only candidate in my riding with a name I could actually pronounce and who didn't confine his campaigning to the local Sikh temples while ignoring everyone else.
