New Canadian Politics Thread

100% awesome. Basically if you are accepted to a decent US school, and you can find an advisor locally who's willing to take you on, absolutely we should bring in as many of them as we can.
I have to think this is happening at many top Universities in Canada even if it's not in a formalised named process.

Ugh. I guess I get the pragmatism behind this, and Carney’s attempt to normalize relations with China.

Really tough spot to be in for our relationship with both India & China and their three billion inhabitants to continue to be in the shitter at the same time the United States has ceased to be a stable ally and partner.

I still hate it though—in particular where India and Modi are concerned.

yeah, it just kinda sucks all around, right?

US is no longer reliable and we should aim to not be wholly dependent on them.

but then what are the other options? EU, sure. AUKUS, sure.

then you have China, and they're a fucking evil regime. but kinda essential at this point.

and then you have India, whose government seems committed to extra-territorial criming all across the country, with no remorse. and again, not sure how you deal with them, cause I dunno what kinda stick Carney has that would have any impact...

but it feels fucking gross.

A lot has been mobilized on this front already, I'm not sure what your beef is.
I care about the policy, not the photo op. As I said, I support reducing inter-provincial trade barriers. But I’m not sure how posting a photo of a random document does that. The tweet adds nothing

It’s just a tweet summarizing his priorities with a stock photo.

Today they announced legislation to help harmonize where there are competing provincial standards (right now you might have to produce a widget to different standards in different provinces - idea behind today’s announcement is to only require that one standard be met). They also announced legislation to recognize licensees and certifications cross border (eg right now some regulated trades have different standards so somebody who requires a certification in Alberta might not require certification to do the same work in Ontario).
