The London-born artist Abubakar Baker Shariff-Farr performs under the stage name Bakar. He's an "indie rock" musician who I first discovered around the start of the pandemic. This is his latest single, "React".

Julien Baker has received much acclaim as 1/3 of the group Boygenius. However, she's an acclaimed artist in her own right. Here, she sings the theme song to the streaming series Orphan Black: Echoes. This is the song "The Lengths". Take a listen

Ringo Starr recently released LP #21, "Crooked Boy". One of the singles that's been getting some airplay on the station I listen to here in L.A. is the rocker "Gonna Need Someone". Heard it more than a few times and thought "that guitar sounds familiar". That's because it's Nick Valensi of The Strokes playing with Ringo. Really like this one.

Yannis Philippakis, frontman for the indie rock group Foals, teamed up with the late Afrobeat musician (drummer) Tony Allen and his frequent collaborators on a project Yannis called Yannis & the Yaw. Though Tony died in 2020, Yannis decided to come back and finish the project, entitled "Lagos, Paris, London". This is the second single, entitled "Walk Through Fire". Very distinct Foals-like sound, but "funked up".

Before I heard the Yannis & the Yaw song mentioned above, I had come in here to share a song yesterday that I apparently forgot to upload. The Philippine-born London artist Beabadobee performs what's been referred to as "confessional bedroom pop" and "swoon pop". I just think of her as a mega-talented singer/songwriter who composes and performs memorable songs. This is her latest (lyric video included) called "Coming Home"

Been meaning to post songs this week but kept forgetting. Not now. Here's a couple of new ones. The first song, "Sha La La", is by the local band Winnetka Bowling League. Indie, power pop, whatever you call them, I like them, and I like this new song.

The second is by a group of punk rocker girls from LA called The Linda Lindas (the drummer will be 14 later this month and has drummed for the group half her actual life!) Their latest song is called "All In My Head"

The final song for today is the latest from London-born pop rock singer Kate Nash. Kate's debut single in 2007, "Foundations", was a huge hit for her. Her fifth album, "9 Sad Symphonies", is her first in six years. This is the single "Misery"

The indie rock giants The Decemberists released their ninth studio LP, As It Ever Was, So It Will be Again back in mid-June. This is their latest single, "Oh No!". Gotta say the first time I heard it I thought it was one of their older tunes.

Jonny Polonsky. Good enough to have been hailed by Jeff Buckley (!) and Black Francis (Pixies), he gained the attention of Rick Rubin and Reeves Gabrels (David Bowie's guitarist), and yet I'd not heard of him until I heard this single. He's done so much session and touring musician work (Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, Donovan, Maynard James Keenan's bands Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifier; Perry Ferrell, the Chicks and Audioslave) that his own work has been overshadowed. He currently is part of Pete Yorn's band. But this solo single, "Something Like an Angel"? Should get him noticed.

Earlier this year, pop/soul/country artist Teddy Swims set the all-time record for most weeks a charting single took to reach #1 on Billboard's "Hot 100": 32 weeks! That amazing song is "Lose Control". But this song is his latest, one entitled "The Door". Super catchy.
