No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

Fwiw: Steeves has been on a top team the last few years and hasn't been able to crack that lineup, while Gregor was in a bad organization so got some opportunity, but this is how they compare year over year in the AHL:

21:
Gregor: 25GP, 7G, 12A, 19PTS (23G/39A)
Steeves: 58GP, 23G, 23A, 46PTS (33G/33A)

22:
Gregor: 10GP, 3G, 6A, 9PTS (25G/49A)
Steeves: 65GP, 19G, 32A, 51PTS (24G/40A)

23:
Gregor: 8GP, 4G, 8A, 12PTS (41G/82A)
Steeves: 14GP, 11G, 7A, 18PTS (64G/41A)

-10 or worse forwards per team:

TOR: 3 (Kampf 20gms, Gregor 20gms, Reaves 16gms)
SJS: 3 (Sturm 20gms, Kunin 22gms, Zadina 20gms)

OTT: 2 (Kastelic 9gms, MacEwen 6gms)

TBL: 1 (Glendening 23gms)
VGK: 1 (Cotter 23gms)
ANA: 1 (Leason 18gms)
PHI: 1 (Deslauriers 22gms)
BUF: 1 (Krebs 20gms)

So a handful of teams have one -10 or worse guy that htey play regularly.

Ottawa has 2 of them, but they're extras and mostly in the pressbox.

Toronto and San Jose employ 3 of them, full time.

Steeves is 24 this year though. He’s only a year younger than Gregor.

Point is they are both just fast, low talent wingers, but Gregor has been better at every age.

I don't know that you need to compare them. Steeves is having a great year and plays a nice well rounded fairly rugged game. I'd like to give him a chance before he hits waivers again.

As far as minor league production, Gregor has that elite speed which probably helped him outproduce his actual skill level in the minors.

And I don't think Gregor is at all a write-off either. I think he could be good.

Steeves was mostly a PP merchant before this year. But he had a very nice preseason. No reason to toss him away without giving him a single real chance. He's probably nothing and I doubt his 24% S% holds up this year.. But when you're playing so much 0 upside trash in the NHL it would be a shame to never give the guy a real shot.

so does Kampf have to ever worry about being benched? or does he just get to suck indefinitely without consequence...

A year and a half, but sure.

Eh? How do you figure that? Cracking the Sharks forward group while Steeves is stuck behind actual talent in Toronto isn't really proof of much and their AHL vs AHL records probably favours Steeves a bit overall. Pre NHL it's basically a wash as well,

I’m not one to make rash statements of course, but Sammy seems finished as a Leaf. Not immediately, but likely later this year. I doubt he’s taking his marginalization with a cheery attitude.

Anytime I've seen him sitting on the bench lately he doesn't look very happy, just kinda staring off into the distance .

With all the injuries on defence, now would be a good time for the team to remember they can play tighter...the system was there last year, and even though they can't seem to do for too long with breaking out in hives or something we knew it's possible.

What better time than when your team full of fill-ins who just want to play mistake-free hockey?

Net Rating Ranks (Leafs in the Top-100)

They prefer Tanev yeah which is a relief. But still, aim higher maybe. And hey maybe they'd want Calgary to retain on Tanev too. Hopefully they say no!
