No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

Man Bert has been almost the opposite of what I expected.. Was kinda thinking he'd produce on the counting stats but maybe underperform a touch on the nerdies compared to some of the other guys (though I definitely didn't expect bad nerdies). He's been Tre's best signing I think. Benoit pretty good too.

But yeah M&M being anything but elite is absolute killer
The nerdies lose credibility when they say that Bert has basically been the best Leaf. That's completely stupid based on the eye test and the counting stats. He's doing so much more that isn't really evident on any level that result in giving him a better score than forget about the other guys, but even Nylander? Completely absurd.

forget the nerdies.

Bertuzzi and Nylander have been on the ice for the same number of goals 5v5.

But Nylander's been on the ice for twice as many goals against.

They don't say he's been the best Leaf. He's been the 4th best behind Nylander (+18), Matthews and Tavares (+15).

IMO its the forechecking. He's ridiculously awesome-Hyman good on the forecheck, and it shows up in elite D numbers. Dom has him as one of the top defensive forwards in the game this year.

I was referring to the XGF stats zeke posted on the prior page that have Bert at 65 and Nylander at like 57 or something.

Which is outright hilarious.

And I'm not seeing this ridiculously great forechecking, unless you're confusing him with Knies, who has been a monster in that department. Him and Matthews, when they get near pucks, they are freakishly good at grabbing them off players with stick lifts and other twist moves they pull.

Bertuzzi has been terrific. I hope he can produce more at some point but the ice is tilted whenever he's on the ice and that's no fluke.

So far Knies unfortunately has shown a knack for giving the puck away a lot and in really bad positions.

Bert is the opposite.

So far.

If Flames continue to absolutely refuse to retain then Tanev is gonna be their "big" get. I'd be interested if they can work out a giordano/spezza extension. Unlikely but that could be worthwhile.

I think the chances of that are pretty much zero. Spezza & Gio were in their late 30’s after already having pulled down top-pair defenseman & #1 center type money over the course of lengthy careers. So they could “afford” to take bargain-basement deals.

Tanev on the other hand is only 34, so is probably his last chance to get a good payday on a multi-year UFA deal. And while he’s been well paid, he hasn’t pulled down the kind of money Spazz and Gio had.

Yeah not expecting that either. Which is why it concerns me a bit that Tre wants to keep him. Though at 34 he should still be very cheap, even if not league min.
