No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

Why didn't we just sign Gudas in the offseason?

Eh, as much as I've argued for adding Gudas in the past as a #4-5 type guy who is legitimately insane and also pretty okay at hockey, I wouldn't have signed him for 4/12 at 33 years old either. Not when we see what the trade market is for similar quality players who also provide that physical edge is. Zadorov for a 3rd and a 5th is pretty cheap imo if you're looking for that guy, especially at his age where signing him to 3-4 years at similar money is a better bet.

the line switch at the top hasn't worked out really, though Marner did have a big game last game and Matthews had a big game last night so maybe they'll work with time. But if keefe switched it right back i wouldn't be upset.

3rd line has been consistently good as long as they stay together.

fact is we will never be a good nerdies team with a 4th line that bad. it's impossible. the line showed some hope with mcmann instead of reaves so we just have to keep trying that. hopefully the boston liljegren revenge game that keefe benched reaves in for the last two periods is the last time we feel the need to force reaves into a game against a good team.

The load's a little heavy on the top pairing right now but they're mostly handling it so far.

McCabe has made the 2nd pairing a strong one no matter who's been paired with....other than of course Klingberg.

Bottom pairing has been more than fine as well, no matter which fill-ins have been used. They could probably start getting less sheltered tbh. And should be as Timmins gets his game back into gameshape.

the Tavares Line gf% is counting two mid shift goals where only JT was on the ice as GA for the line.

there were a handful of line combos that came in below 50% but they were mostly short-lived. with the notable exception of ZAR-Kampf-Acciari which keefe tried to carry over into the playoffs but had to abandon quickly,

But obviously nothing remotely close to the Gregor-Kampf-Reaves combo which has already piled up 55 minutes together a quarter of the way through the season and sits at an unplayable 36.9%. It just can't go on.

I mean the d is so bad that we’re sitting here loving the play of Simon Benoit. And that’s with rielly playing like a legit #1.

Also I think that the new offensive system is clearly not playing to marners or Matthews strengths. They’re back to the babs offense, focusing on cycles down low instead of looking to work the puck up high to Marner.
