No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

ach why would i even start.

these are the types that don't realize that the "bad" Leafs are 10th overall and ahead of a bunch of more highly touted teams.
the no goaltending, corpse of TJ, half of our top 6D injured, muddling mitchie, mein kampf Leafs are still top-10, yeah.

As for outside help, Treliving didn't sound hopeful of a trade.

“I checked outside, the goaltender tree was empty,” said Treliving. “I couldn't pick one off there. We'll see with a little bit of sun, maybe they'll grow a few more.”

So he was 250k too high on Matthews so maybe he'll be 250k too high on Willy? Was hoping for 10.5 but whatever I'll take 11. Just lock it in.

I bet it's gonna be 11 x 8 =88

Just under pasta...who also signed mid year and gave Boston a hometown discount at 11.25.

They'll pay him 80 million by year four in bonuses

I don't get the Pastrnak comparison. Willy's had a hell of a run the last 100ish games, but come on now.

They're really not comparable.

When Pasta signed his deal, he'd just scored 60 goals, to go along with several PPG+ seasons in a row. Willy on the other hand has only become a PPG guy in the last couple of years, and his goal-scoring ceiling appears to be 40 goals.

As is tradition though, the Bruins will get their top guys at a bargain while the Leafs will pay a premium for theirs. Better than losing Willy, of course, but still annoying as hell. Hopefully Willy will at least go for max-term instead of an Auston/Mitch-style short-term deal.

Willy at 11 when the cap is 100 million and Zegras or some asshole like him gets 13 is gonna be just fine.

I agree with not comparing...but now with the "actually now going to happen" salary cap increases. 11 will be like the 6.9 he's getting paid now

Leafs also repeated the mistake of waiting too long to sign him. Maybe it's Shanny doing this.
Might as well sign Marner asap this summer because we know he ain't playing like this in a contract year at 27 next year..

Marner’s not giving them a discount no matter when they sign him.

Even if his play doesn’t improve for the rest of this season and Matthews scores 70 goals, Marner & his team will still demand an AAV similar to Matthews on a 4-5 year deal.

That’s why I want them to get Willy locked up, and then I’m comfortable with them letting Mitch walk (since his NMC has kicked in and trading him is no longer an option).
