Can't really judge a guy on one random game he gets in.
I'm still hopeful because of his performance last year, which was good.
And I still take him over Kampf and that contract, that's for sure.

it worked out pretty well vs anaheim no argument there. though i still think we should see what we've got at some point and not be pussies about playing young players so much.
Potentially running Jones into the ground - long term this could bite us. There wasn’t a need to play him 3 in 4. We didn’t need every bit of Jones - we dominated the last game. Didn’t win because of him - wasn’t like we left him on an island and he stole 2 points.

I mean, as a “ride the hot hand” zealot when it comes to goaltending, as long as the asshole keeps putting up a .930 SV%, I’m fine with him continuing to get the starter’s workload even after Woll’s back.
I just think it’s crazy to risk blowing him out by riding him so hard. And I want Hildeby to be getting starts somewhere, so if that’s not going to happen here, he should be back with the Marlies.

He did play back to back but had a 2 day break before it and a 2 day break after it (and a 2 day break before his previous start) which was a factor.
And we finally seem to be playing some defense over the past 4gms and i think Keefe probably agrees with me/us that Sammy kinda shattered our defensive confidence a bit so he's trying to turn this solid streak into sustained play and doesn't want to risk nipping it in the bud.
I would guess Hildeby would definitely get the Red Wings game on Jan 14 and might get the next game vs SJ...though maybe not because that would mean 4 days off for Jones when he seems to be on a heater.

I have no issue playing Jones while he is hot but there is a reason goalies don’t play 60+ games anymore. Only reason to ride him into the ground is if Hildeby in unplayable like Sammy. But we don’t know that yet.
And obviously when the wheels will fall off for Jones at some point.

Goaltending is a weird combination of physical and mental. You can "ride the hot hand" right into ruining his run of form. There's no rule that says his run of form has to last 20 games, or 40....just that eventually it will end and he'll regress to mean. Keeping a guy physically and mentally sharp isn't an exact science, but I'm going to bet that playing a 33-34yr old like he's a 60-70 game starter isn't the best way to keep the run of form going.

I think Robertson is on the block or in a package already and maybe Holmberg may be as well...but Robertson is just not a third liner. Not for us or any team.
Ideally I think he should move to the top line as Knies is actually more suited to playing on a third line to provide some size and offense.
But instead he could give a team a good second line winger...as long as we get back a defenseman
