No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

Its not like they havent done deals with the Sens before. I think the days of refusing to trade within your div are done.

You have to do whats best for your team and if the Leafs offer the best package you take it
Thing that sucks is, even if his contract is coming closer to the end he might get more expensive in assets this time. Arizona did not get that much for all all considered

I think my Leaf love is slowly dying. If we can't win with guys who might break the NHL all time goals record, fastest Leaf to get to 600 points, top 3 dman in scoring in franchise history, etc., then how and when the fuck will we ever win? Do we always have to suffer through the idiocy of shithead coaches and lackluster GMs? I'm starting to hate this shit.

I hear you on this, but I’m not really there yet. This year I’m still doing decently well at not stressing about the regular season and just sitting back and enjoying it as much as possible. And keeping in mind we’ve got our key guys locked up for multiple more seasons & kicks at the can.

That said, my initial hopes that this core group might be like Chicago or LA and win multiple Cups in quick succession are gone. At this point I just hope they can be like Washington and win one lone Cup.

If we do get to the end of the Matthews-Nylander-Marner-Rielly-Tavares era without winning a Cup though, or even coming particularly close…then woof. All bets are off.

Yup , big missed opportunity

Those 2 low first rounders gets you a solid top 4 with 3 years of fair salary control and could be resigned at the right age as well
I hated the deadline last year. But at least sandin trade looks much better.

Tampa won their first cup 10 years after Hedman was drafted. They aren't running out of time or anything.

But they aren't playing like a contending team this year, and it makes no sense to piss a prime window year down the drain sticking with something that isn't working. Shake it up.

They do have to show something though. With a new GM there could be drastic action done soon.

They’ve lost their two best dmen with the muzzin injury and Brodies decline. They can offset Brodie by shrinking his role and boosting Lilly’s but McCabe just isn’t a replacement for what muzzin brought.

While this is true, teams have been contenders and won cups without multiple top tier defensive defenders on their team. Shit, its been done without having a single one.

Well the issue is the leafs went from 2 to 0. Though Lilly’s looking pretty effin good.

Hainsey, Ron

35 yr old Ron Hainsey was there for the 2nd of 2 titles and was an okay top 4 but was no elite shutdown defender. We had him here the next season and he was good but just good.

This is kind of the point. If we have to replicate the performances of 35 yr old Ron Hainsey and 30+ yr old Trevor Daley to win a cup, thats very doable.

if we're going to insist on going into a shell every time we have a lead though, yeah, we're going to need some top shutdown guys.

saying Ron Hainsey was my way of agreeing with you

I think offense from the blueline has been overlooked too.

40+ point dmen:
Vegas - Pietrangelo, Theodore
Avs - Makar, Toews, Byram
Tampa - Hedman, Sergachev
Tampa - Hedman, Sergachev, Shattenkirk

I wish their D could move the puck and create offense better, outside of one guy.
Well that’s it, too

Brodie and muzzin were 30-40 point guys, too
