No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

Still think he goes back to Domi/Willy sharing C and Tavares/Patches as a different line.

He mentioned yesterday that he likes building his lines based on "pairs".

But I don't mind Holmberg getting a real shot at minutes with good wingers either.

Between patches, Mcmann, Nikki Bobby, Krok, and even knies I think there will be plenty of skilled guys for holmberg to partner with on the 4th line. Heading into the season with him as a 3c is not ideal. Though I guess you can revert on the domi or willy if he doesn’t work out.

Gonna suck seeing him be Forsling for someone who isn't us in 2-3 years.

going into these 5v5 numbers blind....

with CHI....

Forsling (20): 38gms, 13:35 (-7.2dzs%), 44.7xgf% (-4.7rel), 0.47ap/60
Forsling (21): 41gms, 14:45 (-1.4dzs%), 45.2xgf% (-4.1rel), 0.40ap/60
Forsling (22): 43gms, 15:17 (-2.7dzs%), 42.3xgf% (-3.1rel), 0.55ap/60

He was actually legit shit to start, even in powderpuff usage.

Forsling (23): Traded to CAR for DeHaan in the offseason, spent the year on Carolina's AHL team.

CAR's D was: 1. Slavin 25, 2. Hamilton 26, 3. Skjei 25, 4. Pesce 25, 5.Edmundson 26, 6. Gardiner 29, 7. Fleury 23, 8. TVR 28

he was waived right before the start of the next season to get the roster down to size and the D that season was pretty much the same as that year except they lost Edmundston and went with 22yr old 1st round Jake Bean instead of Forsling. Covid roster and cap shit was tight too. Understandable decision but they should still have been able to get something for him you think. Never played a game for the canes.

and then with FLA

Forsling (24): 43gms, 16:12 (+5.6dzs%), 58.0xgf% (+2.8rel), 0.86ap/60
Forsling (25): 71gms, 17:30 (+3.0dzs%), 55.9xgf% (-0.7rel), 1.09ap/60
Forsling (26): 82gms, 18:10 (+0.1dzs%), 51.2xgf% (-3.1rel), 1.17ap/60
Forsling (27): 79gms, 17:07 (+0.2dzs%), 56.7xgf% (+2.0rel), 1.15ap/60

Instantly awesome in tough usage as soon as he played for the Panthers. pretty bizarre tbh.

Lilly's actually in a much different situation - he's actually dominated his soft bottom pair usage to start his career. Lilly could definitely put it together still and it wouldn't take much, but he seems a bit soft in the head tbh,. But that might be fixable.

But the Forsling comp is something you could use for every dissappointing young dman and i'm not sure it applies.

Make a big package of Lilly, Kampf, and Jarnkrok for a 2C ideally even one that is smart defensively which I would play with Willy and Robertson

Knies Matthews Marner
Robertson xxxxx Willy
Patches/mcmann JT Domi
Lorentz Holmberg Reaves..cuz he will be there

I actually think Holmberg is pretty good and deserves a real shot. No guarantee he's good in that role but i definitely think it's a legit possibility. And if these new lines are Berube seeing something he likes in Holmberg's game then giddyup.

But if it's a vote of confidence in Kampf, then....yuck. I really don't want to see us giving Kampf the 7th or 8th most forward minutes again. I was hoping that was in the past.

But Holmberg in at C really makes for a counting issue on the wing.

Knies-Marner & Domi-Nylander in the top 6.

then for the 4 guys in the bottom 6 we have 4 guys with top-9 skills......Robertson, McMann, Pacioretty, Jarnkrok who should all really be in the lineup. I would hate for any of them to come out even for Lorentz or Dewar let alone Reaves.

But then maybe that's a good sign that Reaves is not gonna be in the lineup. And then maybe the one solid sounding rumour we've heard - that Krok is the one on the block - makes sense so he can get his boy Lorentz in the lineup.

So:

Pacioretty - Holmberg - Robertson
Lorentz - Kampf - McMann

but man I'd still rather have Krok in there than both of Lorentz and Kampf.

I keep coming back to Kampf. He's the one i want to see go. Not because he's not a good 4C but just because it unlocks the cap and roster the best.

But maybe this is all meaningless and they're just showcasing Holmberg tommorrow and he's the odd man out. But if he is i sure hope it's Domi at C and not Kampf moving up to 3C.

Liljegren:

20: 11gms, 9:37 (+2.8dzs%), 35.6xgf% (-14.3rel), 0.28ap/60
21: 2gms, 12:55 (+2.5dzs%), 75.6xgf% (+21.4rel), 0.00ap/60
22: 61gms, 14:39 (+0.3dzs%), 60.7xgf% (+4.9rel), 0.97ap/60 ---> Plyff: 2gms, 12:11 (+6.1dzs%), 30.7xgf% (-21.2rel), 0.00ap/60
23: 67gms, 15:20 (+0.5dzs%), 54.0xgf% (-0.5rel), 0.65ap/60 ---> Plyff: 5gms, 14:40 (-1.9dzs%), 48.3xgf% (-1.5rel), 0.00ap/60
24: 55gms, 16:09 (-5.3dzs%), 55.1xgf% (+2.9rel), 0.65ap/60 ---> Plyff: 6gms, 15:59 (-9.3dzs%), 36.8xgf% (-11.5rel), 0.63ap/60

Lilly's usage actually hasn't been nearly as soft as I remembered.

And man that age 22yr he was looking really really good - legit dominating in limited but not supersoft usage, with very good offensive production too.

The last 2yrs have been good but not dominant - bigger minutes but no tougher usage (and easier usage last year). And the offense hasn't been there either.

And unfortunately his playoffs have been pathetic.

Maybe Keefe just ruined him.

With you on kampf. For all his shortcomings at least Krok is a jackknife who you can fit in anywhere up and down the lineup. Kampf was a nice luxury at 1.25 but at 2.4 he’s a cap anchor

I wanna at least see him without Keefer before throwing in the towel on what is likely now a distressed asset

A "Forsling" is more of a narrative descriptor than an analytic one. Any "disappointing" young defender that an impatient organization gives up on too quickly (or develops poorly) who flourishes elsewhere more or less immediately. Forsling, Stralman, Toews, Schmidt, etc
