No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

I bet the other McCabe would have had shit nerdies. I loved him at the time but my hunch says the analytics would have hates him. Do we have any data from his prime? I'm aware he was shit by the end but I'd be curious about his prime.

my suspicion as well.

although he played with Kaberle for a while and I expect Kabs to have excellent nerdies, so who knows...

2007-2010. McCabe 32-34, Kabby 29-31

Dom would have loved him though.

yeah that tracks.

Kaberle was a realgud offensively and ok defensively.

BMac was ok offensively and realbad defensively.

they both played monster PP minutes back in those years where the nhl cracked down on interference.

it's a bit unfair becuase we only have BMac's last year in TOR.

07-08 5v5

Kaberle (29): 82gms, 16:59 (+1.6dzs%), 49.3xgf% (-0.8rel), 0.56ap/60
McCabe (32): 54gms, 16:26 (-0.7dzs%), 46.3xgf% (-3.4rel), 0.34ap/60

Kubina (30): 72gms, 15:49 (-0.1dzs%), 48.8xgf% (-1.2rel), 0.87ap/60
White (23): 81gms, 15:31 (-1.0dzs%), 52.6xgf% (+2.7rel), 0.75ap/60

Gill (32): 63gms, 15:28 (+0.6dzs%), 49.8xgf% (-0.2rel), 0.77ap/60
Cola (25): 28gms, 14:00 (+1.8dzs%), 50.3xgf% (+0.4rel), 0.62ap/60

Woz (27): 48gms, 11:04 (-1.3dzs%), 50.0xgf% (+0.3rel), 0.74ap/60
Stralman (21): 50gms, 10:47 (-2.6dzs%), 47.9xgf% (-1.1rel), 0.56ap/60
Kronwall (25): 18gms, 9:37 (+2.4dzs%), 52.8xgf% (+3.3rel), 0.00ap/60

So McCabe was legit terrible his last year here. I'm sure he was better in his prime years but probably never too good at evens.

His next year in FLA:

JBow (25): 82gms, 18:04 (+3.6dzs%), 46.9xgf% (-0.8rel), 0.51ap/60
McCabe (33): 69gms, 16:41 (+1.3dzs%), 47.6xgf% (+0.0rel), 0.71ap/60

Ballard (26): 72gms, 16:37 (+2.0dzs%), 48.4xgf% (+0.6rel), 0.88ap/60
Skrastins (34): 80gms, 16:29 (+3.8dzs%), 47.0xgf% (-0.6rel), 0.46ap/60

Boynton (30): 68gms, 13:10 (+0.9dzs%), 50.1xgf% (+2.3rel), 0.97ap/60
Welch (26): 23gms, 6:34 (-4.5dzs%), 40.0xgf% (-6.6rel), 0.60ap/60

He was better the next year with florida, but just ok on a very bad team. And his usage seemed to be a bit softer than the rest of the top-4.

and the year after

Leopold (29): 61gms, 17:07 (+2.6dzs%), 44.1xgf% (-1.1rel), 0.78ap/60

Ballard (27): 82gms, 16:40 (+3.6dzs%), 43.5xgf% (-1.8rel), 0.57ap/60

Allen (29): 74gms, 16:15 (+3.4dzs%), 46.1xgf% (+0.5rel), 0.43ap/60

Those numbers track pretty well with my hazy memories of that squad tbh.

Obviously stajan wasn't a #2C there and that was a big hole on the team. But the rest of the forwards were fine to good for their roles. The defense corps was pretty good too, but didn't have a legit #1, and McCabe completely imploded that year.

Not a great team but a team that should have been battling for a playoffs spot.....except that the Leafs had traded Tuuka Rask and 2 firsts for Toskala and Raycroft, who gave them an .893sv% on the year, 2nd worst in hockey, ahead of only the Bolts - the other pretty good roster in the league that kept sabotaging themselves with terrible goaltending year after year.

Leafs were 16th with a 49.95xgf% that year.
