No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

Robby hurts a lot.

Knies I have been pleased with some development.

Holmberg has been a real let down.

But we’re also as a team not trying to score anymore so that kinda hangs over everything a bit

Knies has been very good. So has Timmins.

robby has been unplayable. Holmberg similar but maybe getting a bit better lately and at least suited to a defensive bottom line role.

minten and grebs have been a nice surprise but jury's out if they can actually make us better this year.

Yeah, Robbie needs a trade to somewhere that isn't obsessed with heavy defensive hockey. Bad system for the kid. Holmberg probably the same. Knies has put up good goal scoring at 5v5 but 45.5% xG when not on the ice with Auston Matthews isn't good. I don't want to see this kid turn into another of a long line of depth offence who can do things when on the ice with Auston and can't when he's not.

On pace for 52 points with 23% shooting in fringe 1st line minutes isn't the production we should have been hoping for, especially in a system where his size and north-south style should be well suited for. Actually has a lower P/60 than he had last year and has the lowest primary assist rate on the team aside from Simon Benoit. Better powerplay P/60 than Tavares though, so that's something.

let's take a look there....

w/Matthews-Marner: 147min, 57.6%
w/Domi-Marner: 38min, 38.5%
w/Matthews-Nylander: 35min, 44.5%
w/Domi-Nylander: 25min, 53.1%
w/Tavares-Nylander: 23min, 71.5%

Or...we can ignore tiny fucking samples because they're terrible and just look at the last 2 years combined.

With Auston Matthews (734 minutes): 56.7 xG
W/O Auston Matthews (588 minutes): 38.8 xG

Yeah, I was gonna say, he was putting up points with other guys while Matty was out, doing even better.

Isn't the PP success rate higher with Knies on it and Matty off of it too?

Keefe comes across as a good guy who geeks out on advanced stats in that article...while also admitting he was surprised the Leafs didn't can him a year earlier

Keefe was not a bad coach for sure. He knew what was up. The teams lack of success caused him to galaxy brain and overthink a lot of his decisions late in his tenure, which would happen to anyone. He did overstay his welcome by about a year or two but that's not because he's a bad coach.

Devils look real good. 4th in xGF/60, 7th in xGA/60, 3rd in xGF%.

We'll see if he completely changes the way they play in the playoffs or learned from his mistakes.
