No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

For all the bitching about Tre, that was exactly the kind of move we'd expect of a smart GM. I'd trade an unsigned Marner for a signed Rantanen any day. In fact if there was some way to have traded for Rantanen for these playoffs, I would have offered a single contract to both and see who signed first - then trade the negotiating rights for the other in the offseason.

I don't see him turning down Carolina as some noble thing. Sure he'll resign here if we are the highest bidder. But I doubt there will be 1 penny of hometown discount involved. I don't agree it's some fireable offense if he leaves, right now he has a NMC and we are trying to go on a deep Cup run. If he doesn't perform, and/or if he's asking for $15M+ ... bubbye.

His current 13.37 cap% on a $110 mill cap is $14.7. And that cap is still 3 years away. On next years cap its $12.8.

MacKinnon/Matthews got 15%, Draisaitl 14.6%. So he won’t get a much higher cap% than he currently has, unless he wants to to leave for the bag in San Jose or whatever.

14% on a $95.5 cap is $13.4 mill, 103 is $14.4 and on a $110 cap is $15.4. If you pay him that, plus another 5 years of $15.4 that is $15.02 mill per.

IMO $14.something is likely.

Rantanen has a cup, 102pt career playoff pace, multiple 100+ point seasons and 50+ goals. Doesn’t make sense to me that Carolina would be unwilling to meet Rantanen’s asking price but willing to pay Marner. Or that they’d prefer Marner as a rental.

Might not have been that Carolina wasn't willing to meet Rantanen's asking price. Maybe he just didn't want to play there, so the Hurricanes thought they'd check to see if Marner would be willing instead.

Carolina reportedly offered Rantanen a lot more than what he got.

They are smart and value elite players. Elite players just don’t want to play there.

So I know +/- is shit but holy crap rielly is a -19 and the only other minus in the back end is Myers.

Don’t know what’s going on there but he’s a liability defensively. It’s beyond just not being good in his own zone - hes kind of unplayable.

robertson on the 4th line today in practice again.

so Krok is probably actually injured again.

only lineup change is McMann and Holmberg swapping lines.
