No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

It’s Pacioretty we’ll lose Robertson for, not Reaves.

As much as some buried their heads in the sand about that likely outcome when we were arguing about whether signing him was a good idea or not.
That's not true. He's perfectly fine where he is, and there's room for Robbie where they have Holmberg slotted. They both fit in the top 9 no problem. This is all about Reaves, and I don't know how that's possible.

I mean, both are true.

Reaves should not be playing over Robbie, period.

but if we didn't sign Patches, Robbie would also almost certainly be in the lineup. which many of us flagged as a reason we were concerned about signing a guy like Patches - it would push other youngsters out of the lineup. that has happened.

Are they just supposed to not sign good players then? I don't get it. Patches has been way better than Robertson and earned a spot over him. The problem is that Reaves is also playing. And McMann deserves a seat too tbh.

if they didn't have an organizational philosophy of minimizing the value and contributions of their young, in-house talent, signings like Patches would be less concerning. as I argued at the time.

like, I get Patches has looked good.

but can you really try to dunk on people who said, "I'm worried about signing Patches cause I bet it means Robbie sits and that's really bad".

and now Robbie is sitting and Patches is in...

and again, they should obviously both be in the lineup right now.

Whining about Max is silly, he's been very good. He and Robertson should both be ahead of Reaves, McMann and Holmberg.

Though it's also fair to say that Robby hasn't exactly knocked anybody's socks off yet this year either.

It's actually fine for Robby to sit for a game or two. Patches, Holmberg, Reaves, Kampf, McMann all sat before Robby did, even though robby hasn't produced. And robby has had more ice time than all of those guys when in the lineup too.

But he has to get back in there soon.

I'm still giving Berube leeway to feel out of his team, establish roles, and establish fairness and accountability.

And even more leeway for showcasing purposes, given there still has to be a couple real players traded at some point soon. Especially since we have the tradeable caphits and tradeable assets to actually make a significant addition to the lineup, and Berube may be trying to establish exactly what kind of addition this team could most use.

Yes, both guys played game 1. patches was benched for Robbie first even. Robbie has just been poop so far. If he was scoring he’d still be in.

Robertson has 1 point in 9 games. Patches has 5 points in 7 games. This is silly.

Thing is nicky has been getting chances but literally fanning on them. Berube has been very supportive of Robby and could be he just think robby could benefit from a quick reset.

The other thing is Domi and McMann are not great shakes defensively so i get him thinking Holmberg's defense is needed on that line.

But at the same time berube knows that he's a good enough coach to figure out how to shelter one offensive 3rd line so that shouldn't be a clincher either. Especially since adding Holmberg to the 4th line instead of Reaves makes that 4th line faster and better defenisvely (and offensively too obvioulsy).

The 4th line is a Puerto Rico Trump Supporter. That’s the entire problem.

Berubes decision making there makes no sense

Same with Benoit over Lilly frankly.

Yeah, I'm not upset at Berube either.
