Any idea how big it was when she noticed?
That I have no idea, but not particularly big I don't think. I just know it was the irregular shape that was the biggest hint, he has a lot of moles but that one was clearly looking different.

Yes but you can avoid burns even without sunscreen.

And then of course when you build up a nice tan you don't get burned anymore.
k. i mean, i'm not sure how realistic that is for a lot of people.

if i'm out for 8 hours on the first nice day of the year, i'm gonna burn unless i have sunscreen on - i can still get tanned with it on.

zeke wants to ignore the role of genetics in all this.

as a pasty ass motherfucker, I empathize

As for sunscreen, I'm not sure I've seen great evidence that any of the ingredients in most products actually harm humans. Those products go through rigorous testing and based on the information we have now, they are not killing us. Of course we could find proof otherwise in the future and that is when some of those ingredients would get reviewed and likely banned. So for the folks that want to use a natural product in order to play it safe in case there are things we don't yet know, then that is fine too.

There are levels of consumption in every product in the world that become toxic to humans, but sunscreen and most things we consume contain like 0.0001% of the levels that would be toxic to humans (even water is toxic at a certain point.. and yes water is a chemical too.. everything is a "chemical", it doesn't have to mean bad). Unless I'm missing something? Is there an ingredient in there that is toxic to humans at the levels contained in sunscreen?

That is the biggest issue with a lot of these fear monger people. They take a study that shows ingredient X is toxic, then determine that product Y is bad for you and you should stop eating or using it. But they don't look at how much you need to consume for it to be toxic vs how much is in the product you are consuming.

I think there's a general idea that cancers of all types is a recent trend in humanity likely linked to us toxifiying our environment and bodies.

And the fact that many chemicals can't be proven to directly cause something isn't the most convincing argument.
