OT: American Politics

Kamala 15million less votes than Biden.

If you think that 2020 election was legitimate then you're a buffoon.
In Hind sight It would have been better for Trump to have won cause he Would have had to Own the "Perceived" economy and would have been slightly less likely to do the things I think he will since he was "opposed"

Because Harris is a woman.

Misogyny won the election and the voting shifts.
It was pretty fucking stupid of the dems to try after 2016, honestly, and sad as that is. Especially followed by Joe's 2020 performance. It was the only option after the debate so I was like ok, whatever, LFG. But it was fucking dumb.

We should do our best to accept, serenity-prayer style—that he got away with trying to overturn the 2020 election, and with his mass theft of government secrets at the end of his first term. Those cases will disappear very soon. And we can infer from experience what he’ll do about the other, relatively limp efforts, to hold him accountable under the law.

He is meant to be sentenced in New York later this month for almost three dozen felony convictions. Do we really think a state trial-court judge will order Trump to prison? Will he sentence Trump to anything at all? Defer sentencing for four years? And what if Trump decides he wants that case—and all the state-based legal jeopardy he faces—to go away? Will he demand clemency from Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY)? Will she give it to him? If she does not, will he promise to retaliate against the state of New York with abuses of federal power?

Just like that—before he’s sworn in, before he can pardon the January 6 insurrectionists—we’re tumbling down the slope. Because we live in an autocracy now.

Ya, was thinking about this last night. Wish Trump had of just won in 2020 now. He probably just mails in a second term while continuing to enrich himself through all possible means, and then gets to call himself the greatest president ever for the rest of his life and milk that.

Now we get vengeful Trump controlled by broligarch money, with a nice helping of Musk and RFK. This is much worse.

During the first Trump turn, there were guardrails and people who could actually say "Sir, you can't do that".

This time, it will be with different people going " Sir, you are President, you can do whatever you want."

Yep. This is exactly the issue. My only hope is that democracy survives. So hard to imagine a world where our neighbour and biggest trade partner no longer has fair(ish) elections.

No one from Rep past spoke at the RNC. At first I thought it was odd but it makes sense. It’s a different party than just 10 years ago.

Cause they all supported Harris. Dems need to look in the mirror and remember they are trying to get people to vote for them. If your platform is speaking to the Cheney's of the world and not the citizens there is your problem.

There is a distrust of the neo-liberal/con establishment and the anti-Trump sentiment didn't outweigh that.

Trump winning the popular vote is as strong of an indicator that the Dems need to move their party into the new populist generation. That probably should have been obvious as early as the Obama campaign, but definitely after Trump in 2016 and Bernie in 2020.

The Dems problem was this speech:

As I said last night, it rubbed me the wrong way at the time. I didn't say anything because I wanted to forget it, but I think this is the problem.
The speeches by the Obama's were so patronizing and underscored how these people live in their high castles and demand people vote according to how the oligarchs say a racial/ethnic/gender identity should vote without actually trying to learn about the common person and what they want or their situation.

Trump connected with common people, whether you agree with how or why.

When the guy that won is a criminal coup attempting, sexual assaulting, lacking character and still wins... There is nothing that would have worked if you want to remain pro humanity.
