OT: American Politics

If a state has a constitutional amendment, are they safe when the national bans kick in? Gonna be quite an extreme from state to state. Especially when they go after contraception and same sex marriage next.

Didn't make sense to me then. Talk about an own goal. You don't humiliate the richest guy in the world, who also happened to vote for you.

New YorkCNN Business —
President Joe Biden celebrated ambitious electric vehicles goals by automakers at the White House on Thursday. But he did so without the world’s largest maker of EVs: Tesla.

Joining Biden were executives from General Motors (GM) and Ford (F), as well as Stellantis, the company formed by the merger earlier this year of Fiat Chrysler and France’s PSA. But electric vehicles are only a sliver of these companies’ US sales — 1.5% for GM and 1.3% for Ford (F) so far this year, and Stellantis doesn’t have any pure EVs for sale on US soil yet.

Meanwhile, Tesla (TSLA) makes nothing but battery-powered electric vehicles, and always has. So why wouldn’t the world’s biggest maker of EVs be invited to the table?

“Yeah, seems odd that Tesla wasn’t invited,” the company’s CEO Elon Musk said in a tweet overnight.

Scotus can issue a new ruling upholding the federal ban, I imagine

No. Any national legislation would supersede it

They could challenge it at the Supreme Court but....

Great work by ME and Zeke and others in the thread that I read every day for entertainment and information. However, I’m afraid that the US is about to enter the Quebec model of being bipolar as an electorate.

Growing up in the province, I have seen them vote for liberals PQ NDP Bloc and conservatives in a 40 year period.

Data modelling for future elections is out the door. It’s just a grift like everything else.

Incumbency is no longer an advantage.

By the way, I have two sisters that live in the US. One in Florida and one in California. They both told me months ago. Trump would win and no amount of rationalization that I could tell them via polls and aggregate polls that they ever even blinked.

Everyone they know in the South Asian/Muslim community in Southern California and in central Florida either voted for Trump because of his conservative family values (Anti-gay etc) or voted for Stein as a protest vote against the Dems.

I know that this is anecdotal, but even my wife’s family in the US said Trump would win and It won’t be a joke. The hidden trump vote is real. We have seen it for three elections now.

That’s not how it will be in 4 years

That's not a rare story.

My sister and I talked about the election, and she isn't a deeply political person. After going through the processes and the issues, she just quietly said, "he's gonna win".

It's funny to me that they think Trump has values. That guy would fuck an infant and piss on the mentally ill if he could get away with it.

Gotta admit that you guys got to the acceptance stage much quicker than I anticipated.
Because we are rational people. And most of us can step away and say not my country (yes it affects us in some ways).

Also most of us have no faith in Dem leadership. Clinton X 2 Pelosi and Biden speaking at the DNC is the problem. No one from Rep past spoke at the RNC. At first I thought it was odd but it makes sense. It’s a different party than just 10 years ago.

Dems have to find that balance.
